MacKinnon won the Calder at 18, he had a couple down years after that but he was always dynamic.

Mackinnon's talent was always on display with his ridiculous skating & puck skills, plus it was obvious that he worked really hard to improve every season even if the results lagged. If Kakko flashed even a tenth of that ability or came across as someone driven to be one of the best, I'd be as patient as a monk waiting for him to figure it out. That's just not the case with this kid, his ceiling appears to be a 40 point 3rd liner.

No, it's not. Mack had "it" and was a f***ing stud right out of the gate. I don't see an ounce of Mack in either Laf and even more so Kakko. Mack killed it as a rookie, got hurt, got unhurt, and then tripled down on the skill that came natural. Superstar 1OA Day 1.

Devon Toews basically did the same thing after Colorado lost to Chicago:

The Avs are 12-3-1 since those comments. Maybe the Rangers ought to try it out too. I'd say Trocheck should probably be the guy to do it. He's playing well enough and frankly don't expect anyone else (at least from the forward group) to say things like that.

I’d be genuinely curious to see how one of the best athletes in all sports holds up after a few months around the country club. My brain says he’s too talented and won’t succumb, but the country club is undefeated.
