I mean look at that CBJ team.
They werent exactly prepared to go toe to toe with the lightning that year.

They had Seth Jones, Panarin, a young PLD, bob, and a young PLD. VS the absolutely loaded TBL.
Point/stamkos/Kucherov/MCD/Sergachev etc.

That was a massive upset, and more important Tort's hasn't had a roster that talented in a long time. He does a lot with a little, thats always going to get you a head coaching job somewhere.

They also had duchene who was pretty great that run and guys like Bjorkstrand and Atkinson.

Tampa should have won but that CBJ roster was pretty strong.

1: they were eliminated the very next round. Per all of Torts’ upsets, he burns through his players for short-sighted victories because the championship hasn’t been a possibility for him for so long.

2: even this upset was almost half a decade ago. You don’t hire HCs for 1st round upsets and nothing else.

You hire a coach to get the most out of the roster you give them.
I have issues with tort, but he absolutely does that for a certain style of player.

I always refer to him as Anthony because he prefers Tony.

Wish the media would do the same since he's a disrespectful asshole
No idea where you guys get your info from haha its such clueless bs. He was one of the most popular guys in the locker room during his time here. He still regularly hangs out in the offseason with fox, lindgren, skeji, hayes, vesey. All star break he was on vacation with trocheck, trochecks wife and kids. He plays on a charity team with goodrow (they never were teammates in the nhl but are good friends). You guys honestly just dont have a clue haha. Most of you probably dont realize georgiev was EASILY the most hated player on the rangers. Wasnt a close 2nd.

Anyway, back on topic, the canes are going to be a problem. Their knock the past few years was too soft. Bunting, lemieux and tony d are going to frustrate the hell out of other teams. Theyre my pick to win the cup

ADA certainly helped them last time around with their toughness...
Bunting is a good add, but if they are playing Lemieux in the playoffs I imagine that their opponents would be very happy indeed, he's just not a good hockey player

His style of player is more of a support or bottom 6 type, defensive type of player and in the end a team with grit and skill will beat those players. He got lucky in Tampa and really hasn't done much since.

Pepe is a solid 4th liner and thats all he’ll be asked to be

Lmao Tonys tuffness was an absolute non-factor against us in the PO's. I clearly remember him cowering in fear from Troubs. Not worried about that, but he was one of the better *offensive* guys against us for sure.

Carolina still doesn't scare me, it's their top forwards who can't grind it out.

They can grind it out, but not much else. It's scoring goals they have a real problem with.

I also remember him getting stripped by either laf or chytil in the neutral zone and them walking in for an easy goal.
And him getting a penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct for putting the puck in the net after the whistle.

Yup. Though I think Rod and ironically Quinn got the best out of him. Not defensively speaking of course, he doesn't know what that is still.

I don't know what your post has to do with the fact that TDA is a disrespectful asshole.

Carolina worked for him last time he played there. But he's not getting the same opportunity now that Burns is there. But for what they are paying him, being a positive contributor down the lineup is probably enough.

Burns is a very different player stylistically, from what I read from Canes fans they weren't thrilled with his performance as PPQB & think Tony was better.

What a player. Sad to see him go.

Also kind an underrated POS on the ice. Was never brought up because he was always considered the smart, responsible center. Playing with Marchand for a decade will do that to anyone though I suppose.

I really thought he was coming back for one more year. Phenomenal player but what an awful way to finish.

Raising a glass to Bergy. He was one of my favorites, prototypical hockey player.

Plus it’s storming and I’m sitting home listening to Shrek and Ms. Rachel on repeat with Henry so, why not?

Brother’s Bond bourbon today. I’m gonna solid as can be for the price tag.
