Flyers win again. They are making the playoffs this year even though it won’t be easy

I want Gallant over Quinn. How do we make this happen?

Are you serious? Maybe once again as usual I'm on an island here but I don't get the hate for Quinn from more than a few of my brothers in here as I think he's doing a pretty dang good job coaching a team that has so many young players.

That's why he was brought here as his ability to work with young players was his forte. I don't see what he's doing wrong. Someone please enlighten me.

I dunno, when we make the playoffs next year maybe the tide will turn about him but I truly don't get the hate for Quinn...I really don't!

I’m with you. I really like DQ.

Unfortunately for McDavid, while it's not his fault for the mess Edmonton is in, it was his choice for committing to them long term

I could see him being traded at some point, but a team would have to give up a bunch to get him. And at that point, if you're trading multiple NHL pieces and futures away for McDavid, is that team really going to be much better than Edmonton?

Obviously hindsight is 20/20 but he should have signed a shorter term deal so at least he wouldn't be locked in so long with them

What if Edmonton didn't want to sign him to a short deal? The new CBA gives a lot of power to the teams with control for 7 years in terms of RFA status if a player doesn't sign.

NY sports fans are the worst when it comes to coaches, they always think the coaches available on the market are better than the ones they have and that's in any sport.

I can see how a lot of fans have PTSD when it comes to recent coaches for a lot of the local sports teams which have been really really bad, I agree though Quinn doesn't deserve the hate he's done a really good job.

I'm not sure that is a ny sports fan thing and not fans in general, but there is definitely always a 'the grass is always greener' thing...and its both coaches and players. when you see them every night you are more likely to notice the flaws compared to when you watch guys less closely

He’s not a traditional RFA though. He’s the best player in the league, he could have enforced his will on them if he really wanted too

True, but what alternatives does someone like McDavid really have?

His alternative is to hold out which would essentially destroy the entire Oilers season, get them killed in the media/by the fanbase, and likely cause a severe decrease in ticket sales, tv revenue, and merchandise.

As I said, the new CBA protects teams and prevents that from happening. Good for the teams, I'd say. McDavid didn't hesitate to sign long-term though. He signed the moment he was eligible

My problem with Quinn is that the team regularly looks unprepared at the start of games and the defensive structure is atrocious.

Yah. I gave him an A in the poll at the beginning of the season due to the progress of so many young players, since that' s what I see as his primary purpose/role as the coach of this team. But the longer the season rolls on, and the more I see of what you describe (as well as whatever portion of the blame accrues to him for the Andersson debacle), the more I want to ding him down to A-, B+, B...

Weak starts were also a problem with Vigneault. And with many before. Players are getting paid millions of dollars to play a game for a living. They need to get their own asses ready to play.

The defensive structure criticism is valid, however.

I look at this roster and I'm still not sure I see many coaches producing substantially better results.

I get the feeling some things would be better, other things worse, but the result would still have in roughly the same range we're in.

This team is roughly a .500 team, that's about where they've been for a while, that's probably around where they'll stay, until after the deadline where certain trades could result in dropping further. But I don't know if there is some secret boss level that's just waiting for a coach to come and unlock.

10/10 on this line right here.

That is an area a guy like Kreider could fix in an instant . He could start off the face off by leveling somebody with a big hit and setting the tone ....legally of course . If not him then somebody else could . That gets a team going early .

Agreed.

I really like how direct he is. No bull****.

but I don't see him as a great Xs and Os guy

yeah compare him to the nonsense you get in an Adam Gase presser, or any of those dickhead coaches who seem like answering questions about the team (you know, their f***ing job) is like pulling teeth. Quinn's honesty and openness is really refreshing
