Caps had to do it, but they have so much money tied into these huge contracts for an aging core. The only downside is that this means they can’t overpay Holtby now
 
Ever see this? on a delayed penalty, Islander skater jumps on for a 6 on 5 but the Islanders got confused and had more than 6 skaters on the ice and took a too many men penalty on that change to cancel their powerplay :sarcasm:

Ovechkin's deal is up after next year. He strikes me as a player with some likelihood of still being pretty good 5 years from now when he's 40. That's kind of rare but he moves really well still and he's got a shot. What will he want to re-sign though and he's a player that if there's any decline it's still kind of minimal---less than Lundqvist anyway. The price you pay for winning is bigger contracts to your best players. Quite often it means hanging on to some of them past their sell by date and dumping glue guys along the way to make it all work.
 
5-1 Islanders two minutes into the second period. It's almost like they embarrassed themselves last night or something.

Islanders are so lucky to get Detroit right away after a bad loss. Get their frustration out and get their confidence back playing an AHL squad. If Panarin wants to win the Ross he’s going to need put up like 10 points in those 2 games against Detroit coming up after the ASG

Pettersson passed it to Bozo and he had a completely empty net to shoot at while he was standing at the right side in perfect position with the goalie laying down on the other side of the net and he passes it away LOL

Thursday night might be THE most anticipated game of the year thus far for us. I know for me personally, I'm chomping at the bit as it has theses 3 games in 9 days has the feel of a playoff series vs them.

We won the first one but no question the Philes are going to be out for revenge after our curb stomping of them last night. I just hope we are up for the challenge.

Wouldn't surprise me in the least if they start Martin first shift and he starts a fight with one of our guys. Thursday night is the kind of game where not having Lemieux we are really going to feel it seeing this is exactly the type of game we really need him for.

Can't wait for Thursday.

This is about the saddest thing I’ve heard. Oh man, I hope someone let the rangers know. Hey piles, you just destroyed the worst team in the league and your fans are calling for the rangers ? barely a wild card team at this point. Is it wrong for me to rather the rangers sweep the season series and miss the playoff?

If guys like Strome , Lindgren, DeAngelo , Haley and Kreider , Smith & Trouba all bring an element of physical play we won't have anything to worry about . Then we let our finesse guys go to town . I think we will be OK and hold off the initial physical assault . I would not start Panarin on the opening face off .

id still want someone to fight Nelson for that shot on Mika. remember that. i would start Lindgren and DeAngelo to goad Barzal and hit him every chance he got if they are on the ice together and start stuff with him. make Barzal take the stupid penalty

Up until that shoot out try I think the worst shootout try I've ever seen is my own, freshman year in high school first game of the playoffs we go into overtime no one scores so there's a shootout. I was the second guy to shoot for my team and as I went to Deke the puck totally slipped off my stick and I never got a shot off. The worst moment in my hockey career easily.

Luckily my school won the game which is often called one of the best games in league history, and thankfully everytime I recount that game with my former teammates nobody mentions my awful shootout attempt lol.
