We've seen plenty of examples of players (Lidstrom and Brodeur for example) with long track records win awards because of their track record. If it can happen with other people I don't know it shouldn't happen with the best goalie since the lockout, especially against a guy who has proven absolutely nothing in the NHL. If players were actually chosen based on one season and reputation never played a role, I would have no argument. However since reputation does play a large part, I'll feel like Lundqvist is being screwed. I bet Bob falls back into obscurity next year.

Like another poster stated, It's an annual award and Hank doesn't deserve it this year. Also, as great as Hank has been since coming into the league in 05/06, he doesn't belong in the same sentence as Brodeur as a goalie and that's a fact!

I wonder what Lundy's numbers would look like playing with Stevens and Neidermayer with an effective neutral zone trap and bloated goalie equipment before the lockout.

Well other than being ridiculous as Hank most certainly is a worthy recipient of this award, there are politics that go into it.

Lidstrom's last Norris trophy was an absolute joke. The fact that he even received a nomination, let along winning it was crap.

Fine. But watch all of the so-called "hockey experts" call him a top 5 goalie in the league next year. Some called Quick better than Lundqvist. Which is ridiculous after him having 1 good year.

And those people look ridiculous right now. Bob is having a career year, better than Lundqvist right now but he's not the best goalie in the world. What separates guys like Quick, Bob and Miller from guys like Lundqvist is consistency. To be fair though Quick did have back surgery in the offseason, I'd wait until next season to declare him a flash in the pan.

Why not? Hanks stats are better while playing on worse teams.
Not saying hanks goalie career is better right now but it could be when all is said and done.

Good point but let's be realistic here; Hank isn't on the same planet with goalies like Brodeur, Hasek, Roy, etc. Time to accept Hank for what he is right now which is the best and most consistent goalie in the league.
In order for him to reach the next plateau, he needs to put the team on his back and "steal" a playoff series in which we're not favored in against a team like Pittsburgh, Montreal or Boston.

That might be true but you're talking about one of the all time great defensemen(perhaps the 2nd or 3rd best defenseman I've seen and I've been watching hockey since 1960) so Lidstrom is then entitled to that honor even if he didn't deserve it that year.

Which is exactly playing into my point of politics. Hank certainly deserves a nomination on this season alone in my opinion, and his past should definitely help give him a jump regardless.

Normally dont do this but it made me laugh. They are discussing Larssons potential on the Devils board. One poster said "Moves the puck like Karlsson, hits like Kronwall, Overall is Lidstrom" Talk about overrating youre prospect. I mean everyone does it to a certain extent, but thats on a whole nother level.

If you ask me he will be a solid 3/4 guy from what Ive seen. Lacks footspeed, and hasnt shown much offensively (though that could change).

Roy won 4 cups, Brodeur 3 and although Hasek won only 1 cup(with Detroit), his performance with Buffalo between 1994 and 2001 was off the charts with a lousy team which he carried on his back to a SCF in 1999 vs Dallas. Hank, although great, will never be in the same league career wise with the other 3 goalies and the next time he carries the Rangers on his back in the playoffs will be the first time!

****, if I was Hank my back would be sore as **** already for carrying the Rangers through the past 7 seasons.

You're right, he deserves a nomination this year(based on his numbers and tremendous play down the stretch). Hank is in the league 8 years now and he is generally acknowledged as the #1 goalie out there but, in all fairness, careers as all-time greats are defined by winning championship above everything else!

It's where legends are born and I hope to see Hank cultivate that with us and not someone else a la Hasek. :(

Lol! That's another great point but let's face facts, who do we as fans blame for the lousy teams that have been constructed and put on the ice in front of Hank for the past 8 years??

I believe Hasek won 2 Cups with Detroit, in 2002 and 2008.

Absolutely! I've stated this point ad infinitum in the past and that's this; I've been attending NYR games since 1960(as an 11 year old) and the one constant that stands out is this:
It doesn't matter who the GM has been or is now, this team has been one of the worst managed teams in professional sports.
I hope for our sake as fans that someone else other than Sather get's a "kick at the tires" pretty soon because you never know what Hank will do when his contract is up because he wants to win so badly!

You know what, I thought he won 2 cups but I just couldn't place what year he won the 2nd one. That only cements his legacy even more as one of the top 3-5 goalies that I've seen in my life as a fan. I might even place him as #1 all-time!

I wouldn't know if he looks like Lidstrom normally, but whenever we play the Devils he looks like total ****

I don't doubt Larsson's potential, but God does he look like some guy they took off the street. It's like he's their version of Pyatt.
