Remember, guys. Please keep all Tortorella talk in this thread per the forum-specific rules. Thanks!

LeBrun, Dreger, and McKenzie all hearing "whispers" that change in Vancouver is coming soon. Today or tomorrow.

"Hearing whispers that perhaps change is coming sooner rather than later with the Canucks, perhaps as soon as today or tomorrow..."

Hmmmm.. is it Torts or Gillis? As bad as Torts has been this season, what Gillis has done to that team the past few years might be even worse. Also, I'd keep Torts and his losing strategy around for the rebuild :naughty:

Hoping for a Florida win tonight. With their last 3 games, all at home, they have a significant role in the way the play-offs will look. They play Toronto and Columbus as well.

Haha... two different hockey sites appeared on my buddy's facebook like this. You gotta love it...

Will be interesting to see what happens to Torts. According to the owners his contract will be evaluated by the new GM.

Gillis criticized the style they were playing under Torts. Sather made some hints about that too this offseason. Dave Maloney said at the start of the season that Rangers management didn't like the style the team was playing under Torts. It's pretty apparent that players don't like it. Kesler was getting tons of ice time. Tough, aggressive, gritty player - he's like their Ryan Callahan and he requested a trade out of there.

Torts has to take a page out of Hitchcock's book. Time to evolve. The Blues are 4th in the league in goal scoring. Noone would have ever thought a Hitchcock team could play like that a couple of years ago. If the players don't like you and management doesn't like the way the team is playing and your not winning, that's a recipe for disaster. McDonagh was good under Torts but he's elite under Vignault. Let the talented players do their thing.

Anyone else remember "Safe Is Death?"

That's the antithesis of Torts hockey. Nothing is safer than the system he plays. Collapse around your own net and act as a meatshield for the goalie. Hope the other team gets frustrated makes a huge blunder that you can capitalize on and win 1-0. Punish players for creativity.

It worked when we had players tailor-made for his system. We had a young team sparse on talent that he could come in and mold in his image. That Vancouver team is much older. Most of them aren't going to drastically change their established games to fit his system. It took one year in Vancouver what took four years to happen in New York.

My first thought upon hearing that Gillis was fired was "but he hasn't really been their GM for that long." I think Sather's never-ending reign is skewing my perspective.

Caps facing what's basically a must-win and Halak asks out because he doesn't want to face his old team. I'd give him the rest of the year off with that ****...

That is one of the oddest things I've ever heard. Just lie and say you're sick as a dog if that's the case. It's not like he's a one team player, either.

Did Gillis really not know about Torts' style before hiring him? I mean, really?

The Ottawa Senators have been eliminated.

The Carolina Hurricanes have been eliminated.

The Minnesota Wild have clinched a wild card spot.

The Philadelphia Flyers have clinched a playoff spot.

Brett Gallant in his first NHL game one punch TKO of Ottawa's behemoth heavyweight Matt Kassian. Pound for pound Gallant is arguably the toughest player in hockey. Too bad he sucks as a player. Dylan McIlrath has fought him twice and done pretty well.

I personally think McGrattan in CGY is the best fighter not only pound for pound but in a respect sense aswell. He'll never take advantage of a guy and doesn't use fighting as just an excuse to goon it up during a game.

I remember he fought Mclrath at MSG i believe and told him good job kid afterwards.

McGrattan has been a real contributor as a bottom line guy during a pretty good post-Olympic stretch by the Flames. He is a much more intelligent guy than I suspect a lot of people give him credit for.

Remember when Leaf fans had a powerhouse on their hands that saw a first round loss last year?
