Oh I’ve said put me right at the top of the list. I was livid we didn’t get sergachev. And livid we traded miller. I was right on namestnikov though he’s garbage. But I’ve said myself gorton has proved me wrong a couple times here. With Kravtsov and this trade.

Lot of stuff I still disagree with but wrong on these. Others won’t admit they were right there with me though lol

Miller for Names is essentially a hockey trade, was more than OK with that at the time, this just proves it right...

Miller;
on a very good team
playing with 2 superstars
getting 50% OZ starts
getting 14 mins/game
put up 47 points in 78 games and a corsi of 53.8%

Names got heavier D zone usage, played with lower quality linemates, on a shitty team, getting 3rd and 4th line minutes plus PK time, 15 mins average per game, and put up 31 in 78...

the 16 points of offense from Miller is not worth the headaches that the rest of his game brings. I said this when we traded for him, and I stand by it that it was correct

I really appreciate this breakdown. Further solidifies my thoughts what a good hockey move it was to swap Names with Miller.

Yeah, I get that.

But I also have to tell you that the "out of our control narrative" also drives me bonkers. I mean, where does that end?

Literally EVERYTHING involving this team is out of our control, from the in-game results, to the standings, to the playoffs, to the drafting, to the signings, to the way players age, to the coaches we hire.

But it seems like when we want to dismiss something we go with, "Well it's out of my control." And yet this board is filled with tens of thousands of pages discussing things that are out of our control.

If that's the case, why do we post on anything? Why root for anything either? Afterall, we're all just passengers on a train with no control over it's destination or speed.

I mean if some people are apathetic to these things, so be it, "that's out of my control."

We don't have to dwell on it per se, but I don't know if I'd actively root against it or outright dismiss it either.

I'll be blunt, I think it's pretty shortsighted. Especially for a team that's trying to do what the Rangers are trying to do.

Don't get all existential on me lol

Just kidding. At the same time, I understand what you're saying. I'm not someone who thinks that I'm the "sixth man" or the "21st man."

So lucky to have Quinn as our coach. You know hes gonna have our players play their asses off in the playoffs. Cooper is a disgrace.
It's tough to be the top dog in the league. Especially when it was sealed up for months. Teams like that need to be mentally tough with a bit of a mean streak/swagger.

Back in the day Cooper used the Rangers status as top dog to motivate his team to beat us. Tyler Johnson almost single handedly took us out as his breakout party when we were completely focused on shutting down Stammer.

Clearly playing meaningful games to keep focus and intensity matters more than superior skill level heading into the playoffs. Teams employing suffocating systems and Refs limiting calls help as well.

You've really gone off the deep end since Zucc was traded.

Not really, but u never see objective in this scenario at all, because u dont like the player @ZuccsFluffierFluffer . Gorton see assets two low and return the player and some Rangers players get happy with additional picks when and if they decide to move him in the next two years.

The only reason I would be against such a deal in this scenario if Jeff sign another UFA forward like Panarin, because I would enjoy the idea to bottom out until the 2020 draft, but we all know if Zucc get close to another 60 pts. season we are more likely not going to bottom out next season.

so are we all pulling for a DAL vs CBJ cup now? I am.

And I'd love to see the Jackets win, and see Torts pick up the cup and smash Gary over the head with it.

There is no reason to bring him back. They will be working 2 rookie forwards into the lineup, perhaps right off the bat.

Zuccarello is in the tier of UFA player that never ends well. We're almost free of the Staal/Smith contracts, no need to add another one just for the hell of it.

What will happen is that Dallas will sign him - if not AV will certainly sign him with the Flyers as UFA. Jim Benning might be interested too if they fail to sign other UFA for a possible playoffs push with Nucks. :)
All players decline when they get older, but we will see next couple of seasons. I think it`s more based on which team he join and what kind of players he can build chemistry with in a season.

So I guess Tampa losing should expedite a decision from Stevie Y, no?

It's pretty interesting that Yzerman steps down and they get swept. Yzerman had built this team, and they got close, even went to the SCF back in 2015, but this was the worst yet in the 5-6 year span of this core.

This Penguins sweep reminds me so much of Chicago getting swept by Nashville 2 years ago. It was the first real sign that age was catching up to them.

Is this the beginning of the Penguins slide?

The penguins suck because they are leaning too far towards the "muh grit" category of hockey. Their defense is trash, Jack Johnson was a stupid signing for 1 year, they gave him 5. They traded for Badbransen, their forward depth is missing the pieces to compete, the free agent signings haven't been good..... however, biggest problem of all is that it turned out that Murray just simply is not a good NHL starter... Fluery is leaps and bounds over him in Vegas.

Murray's playoff numbers from the SC years are great. Fleury wasn't the better goalie for them at the time they made their goalie decision (forced by the expansion draft).

THis is not true. Caps haven't been swept since like 1998...

Yeah, and they lost that series in the finals.

Funny, 92-93 Caps AHL team the Baltimore Skipjacks coached by Barry Trotz were swept in the first round of the playoffs by our Binghamton Rangers.

Next season, 1994, they moved to Portland Maine and won the AHL championship.

Everyone though the bolts was going win the cup, the 31th pick was in the bag, "guaranteed" !!! if they came up short like losing in the final, our 2nd round pick from them would lower, this scenario is so much better, we get a higher 2nd pick and they got sweep , life is good ...

We now get the 58th overall pick. If they lost the final it would have been the 61st overall pick. Let's not pretend it's a big difference
