Sharks need to look at this roster they have. I don't think a realistic owner/manager thinks Erik Karlsson with his continuous, maybe permanent foot injury is the way to go. It is a testament to his talent how much he has added to the Sharks offense but his career is on the downside if he cannot get healthy. Great defenseman by way of great offense, but not a great defenseman.
Actually, I hope the Sharks do sign him so those Rangers fans talking about getting him will sign off on the whole idea. Gorton is too smart to even entertain the idea of signing EK.

And some people want us to sign EK. Love the player but he'll get 7 years at at least 12 mill per. With his injury history that could become an albatross very soon.

Not sure if this has been mentioned before, but ever since we landed the 2OA in the lottery I really couldn't care less about any of the "potential" 1st round picks we could receive from either Tampa or Dallas.
I'm so used for the Rangers to be extremely reliant on later and late round picks to hopefully turn into a Top 6 type of player but now with Kakko or Hughes at the door step it just seems a lot less pressure is there.

I'm happy for Torts and I'm rooting for Zuccarello, I'm full of glee towards the cocky Tampa fans and am extremely elated at the completely radio silence from my FB friends in regards to the "Penguins being the best team EVAAAR!"

Shark fans said he's been great when healthy, but how often is that and how will his body hold up moving forward? He's obviously playing with a serious injury.

I mean if you watch the replay of this entire sequence, 90% of it was on Dell and Burns. Patio-ready lobbed the puck in on goal literally from f***ing center ice, and Dell softly redirects it dead-center into the high slot, then Burns totally whiffs on poke-checking it out of the zone.

That said, Karlsson had a ghastly night anyway. Burns was f***ing terrible too.

Also I really don't like DeBoer as a coach. Yeah, Martin Jones can't stop a beach ball, but pulling the guy after he lets in two goals? Why didn't you just start Dell in the first place? And I'm even sure what type of systems that team is running, it looks like the skaters more or less do whatever they want. #1 -skate fast #2 -try score.

EK was pretty terrible in game 3 as well. Flat footed and coasting a lot. He doesn't know what to do without the puck. It's like his brain is attached to the puck and he becomes smart when he has possession of it.

Not good news for Jeff Gorton with Tampa - hopefully Rangers or Nucks sign Zucc if Dallas let him go UFA since they need to get younger. He can play LW too and take faceoffs or have a 3rd line role for all I care with a lesser role and TOI. I`m a Rangers fan and want him to play with either Rangers or Nucks.

All forgot when Zucc took that faceoffs and Zib scored? :)

Gortons overvalues these "conditional" picks WAY too much. None of them will hit. He needs to get more guarantees when he makes trades.

That Zucc trade will still look pretty crappy if we only get a 2nd and 3rd. And i'll say it again, Dallas would be crazy to sign Zucc and lose their first round pick in a VERY deep 1st round in 2020. Hope i'm wrong.

I’m of the mindset that it WILL become an albatross. Don’t see any way around it.

'Couldn't care less.' Do you realize how dramatic the increase is in probability of a first round pick hitting compared to a second round pick? We need more than just KK to become a solid team. It's just really absurd to 'not care.'

I can realize taking some enjoyment in seeing Tampa get destroyed. I too enjoyed it. Their smug coach and fans getting a taste of reality is enjoyable. As is the consolation fact that at least our 2nd round pick will now be as high as possible, which was the second best outcome. Still, I wish they'd won the cup, because I'd much rather have 10 years of enjoying a solid NHL player, than the likelihood of our 2nd round lottery ticket probably not hitting.

Pretty much every analysis I've read and every single insider beleives that Gorton got the best deal possible. It's not that Gorton values them way to much, it's pretty likely there was not a better deal on the table. In fact, I think it's quite possible Gorton extracted those conditions, especially in the Zucc trade, more so than having them offered up front.

There is no way Gorton passed on a first round pick in favor of 2 conditions on a 2nd and 3rd. He's not a moron. So the question is, would you have kept Zucc or McD or Miller if these were the best deals on the table? I know I wouldn't.

IDGAF, once we won the Kakko sweepstakes I am just enjoying the playoffs. Not going to get worked over dropping a few spots with WPG's 1st or getting a 2nd instead of 31.

Yeah not going to lie, the whole, “Well we won the 2nd overall so screw everything else” mentality just doesn’t work for me.

These things do matter and they’re not small differences. Especially to a rebuilding team.

Not going to lose sleep over it, but also not going to pretend it’s the difference between picking 150th and 140th either.

Little by little we are saying goodbye to using that winnipeg pick to trade up into top 14 or top 10.

Not necessarily.

Trading into the top 10 was typically based around moving a roster player - either to move directly into the spot, or to get to the teens and move from there.

Whereas something like 14 and 22 might have seen on the high end, 14 and a lower pick in the 20s is still within the potential range.

Kreider’s a goner.

No Hedman really hurt but you rarely see a team in the playoffs play with less heart and such poor discipline.

Might have been a competitive series if they traded coaches.

You've really gone off the deep end since Zucc was traded.

I would sign him for 4 years max. And before people say "Oh, he will never do that" etc. They said the same about Shattenkirk. Smith signed for 4 years. JVR signed for 5. Matthews and Nylander signed for 5 years. Different situations for all of them, but it shows that we may be moving away from the guaranteed 7-year deals.

And if Karlsson accepts a 4-year deal, I would do it

Shattenkirk and Smith aren't even on the same planet as Karlsson, to say nothing of the fact that Shattenkirk took a discount so that he could play for his childhood team. Matthews and Nylander were RFAs. JVR also not as good at his job as Karlsson is at his. None of those are comparable.
