I was wondering if the Foligno - Stamkos animosity might flare up tonight.
Obviously neither are stupid enough for that, so it's forgotten.

I mean he among the league leaders in +/- and had 46 points. And had his best stretch of the season when Hedman was out. It's all fallen apart for him in the playoffs though which is what he should he rightfully so judged upon.

I found his play to be very up and down this season. When he was hot, he was excellent. When he wasn’t, he looked old and tired to me.

But Tampa is one of those teams that is so hard to judge. There are some guys who literally see a 50 percent boost to their production in that environment.

I always feel some of the numbers are inflated, and that’s usually why the playoffs are so eye opening for the team - it bursts the bubble.

Getting ahead of things a bit I realize, but I wonder how early Cooper will pull Vasi if things remain at 1 goal deficit.

So what do you do if you're Tampa? How do you "fix" this? ****ty situation for them.

I'd fire Cooper and get right back at it next year. Very reminiscent of the 2016-17 Capitals that won the PT and got eliminated by the Penguins. Everyone thought their window was slammed shut but they were patient and were rewarded for it.

Definitely don't make any overeactionary trades. See if you can upgrade the defense and cut dead weight like Palat, Killorn and JT. And try and get guys like Komarov and Martin did with the Islanders so they're not so one-dimensional.

I love "refs put the whistle away"
Columbus can proceed to hang all over tampa... this sport is so Busch league

Biggest thing is Jackets have gotten to all the rebounds and no seconds for Tampa

Wouldn't surprise me if TB tied it.
I don't even always believe that the coaches instruct the team to turtle and get into a shell. They tell them to be careful, but it's not like they want the team to give up possession constantly.

The lack of adjustments made by Cooper is alarming to say the least. CBJ has committed themselves to winning 50/50 battles, and yet he still insists on having his team try to make small area passes in the offensive zone.

Losing to Columbus on its own isn't a fireable offense, but getting rolled in 4 because you refused to change tactics is.

When I watch Tampa I am somewhat reminded of the mindset the Rangers had in 1993 and 1994 when they made moves because they needed more than just pure skill to succeed.

When we talk about why teams make a Gartner for Anderson deal, or trade an Amonte for a Matteau and Noonan, this is usually the motivation.

Not saying the move itself always works, or is the right move. But it does spotlight the mindset behind such an approach.
