Markstrom looked as bad as I've seen a goalie be ever. Those 2 goals were as bad as you'll see at any level. That first goal was so terrible. The puck didn't even bounce I don't think. Seriously, REALLY REALLY bad.

Weren't we in one of the 7 team divisions last time they proposed this farce of realignment?

Yea, we were. But, at the time it was WAS and CAR being added. Having only Carolina added was palatable. But now CLB, too?! Now, we're only seeing PHI, NJD, and NYI 4 times a season.

Sorry... but I liked our division the way it was. 5 teams that hated each other and had reason to. Now? Yea.... screw this. I don't care about seeing Carolina, I don't care about seeing Columbus. Oh, and btw... it's tougher to get into the playoffs in the East now. Just dandy.

This is an awful realignment. I hate it. Just because Detroit, the must successful franchise is the NHL for the last 20 years, has to ***** and whine about their divisional alignment. **** them.

Yea **** realignment. Not a fan. At least they added wildcard playoff spots. Less games against traditional Atlantic and Eastern rivals so the Rangers can play the West, Carolina, and Columbus more.

So much for Nash, Dubi, and Artie being traded outside the division though eh? As unhappy as I am to be seeing Dubi on the opposite bench a lot more gotta think Columbus fans have it 100x worse.

Not to mention East now has 16 teams? Who thought that up?

Can only think that is a prelude to expansion, which this Fall showed is really in the leagues long term interests. What a bunch of morons.

Expansion will be happening sooner rather than later. Seattle, OKC most likely. I like what the league is doing. If you want to expand the sport, you have to expand the market. Look at SJ. Nashville. Dallas. They were all doing well for a while. Carolina is the same. Some places miss like Atlanta but in principle it should work to get more kids playing the game which will only help things moving forward.

I get the theory but that also was the root cause of the sports 3rd lockout in the last 20 years.

Not exactly jumping for joy over the business model.

These next 10-15 years are going to be the toughest. The traditional markets are going to have to support the growing markets as they develop their fanbases and entrench themselves in the community. Once they do that, it will be worth it in the long-run but it takes time.

There is not a single division that matches up at ALL to what the "new" Atlantic Division will be.

Making the playoffs, and then the playoffs, are going to be absolutely brutal starting next season for at least the next 7 years.

Better start planning for life after Hank if we want to remain competitive around these parts.

Saw this one on Reddit this morning:

"Breaking News: The Philadelphia Flyers will change their name to the Philadelphia Titanic since they are at the bottom of the Atlantic"

Thanks. I freaking hate this. Was there really no easier way to move Winnipeg out of the SE?

I'm not going to pass premeditated judgment on this realignment. Old rivalries are going to stay strong even if they add more faux-rivals.

I like the idea of CBJ becoming a division rival. Between the Nash trade and former Rangers playing there, it will be nice to see some of those guys play again and they should be heated to play the Rangers. Dubinsky for sure.

What's funny about this is that they are seemingly trying to make each division larger and more "independent" with the divisional playoffs... but at the same time guaranteeing home-and-homes with every other team in the league and essentially tying the East and West together stronger than they've been since the days when there were 21 teams and you just played 4 against everybody.

Completely ass-backwards. Get this expansion done soon so we can get to the four 8-team conferences, since that is obviously where they want to go.

2 against other conferences = 48
5 against everyone in conference except one = 34

RIP 1998-2013 alignment... you were the best we ever had : (

Once the teams are evened out I imagine things will be solid. This imbalance is both annoying and bull****, though.''

ALso, I really hope they at least bring back cool division names.

Columbus is ****ed with this new alignment. They're in a tough division now, but I don't see them ever leaving the basement with them joining the Atlantic.

Guess this is the kind of money you can expect to pay for these players now.

Nash's contract, Getzlaf's contract, Gaborik's contract. Lower years, higher cap hit.

Maybe. But their ticket sales are about to increase dramatically and their ad time on their broadcasts just became more lucrative, which means they'll be able to negotiate a better deal whenever this contract is up.
