I absolutely loathe the new realignment.

Same here. If it was true geographical alignment, Boston and Buffalo would be in the Atlantic and it would look something like this:

Boston
Buffalo
Rangers
Isles
Devils
Pens
Flyers
Caps

Yikes thats insane.

I dont know, what pisses me off most is that the East teams will have 7% less of a chance to make the playoffs and some ****** team (or two) out of the Central is going to be in the dance when a better team with more points deserves to be.

Kinda like the #3 seed in the East every year. If they want to go to this, fine. But take the top 8 teams in points and seed them accordingly. If the top 4 teams are out of the Atlantic, then so be it, they get home advantage, theyve earned that. The only thing the Central teams have earned is the distinction of playing more games in a ****** division.

They need to contract 2 teams and play a 78 game season is what they need to do. Then theyll have 28 teams, even league, better level of play. Top 8 teams make the playoffs with a 4 team best of 3 wildcard round (8th-11th in the standings).

Get rid of Columbus and Phoenix. Have a re-draft with a straight, weighted lottery system and everything. It would be a huge event. The league would be so much stronger. New jersey sales through the roof. Expand the roster minimums slightly for a year or two so guys aren't out of a job immediately to appease NHLPA.

Go back to 8 divisions, 4 teams per. Rivalries would explode. Name one of them Smythe, another Patrick. Bring back the two-line pass (kidding) Drink beer. Enjoy.

Get rid of Columbus? I can't think of a single reason why they should be one of the teams to fold. Phoenix makes sense, but not Columbus.

And if you get rid of Phoenix, we would have a bigger problem. There would be 13 teams in the West and still 16 in the East.

Phoenix is going to Seattle as soon as the Sacramento Kings deal is done. Columbus is not relocating anywhere anytime soon. Contraction, while romantic, is a pipe-dream. First, you're never going to convince 28 owners to cough up the moolah to buy two NHL franchises away from their current owners. Two, the NHLPA would never allow it.

Why not have something similar in baseball? American Conference vs. Canadian Conference. You could still keep 15 teams in each conference, and it would be fair for all teams because each conference would contain teams from both East and West.

Because there are 7 Canadian Teams.

I never really understood the AL/NL or AFC/NFC system. Why shouldn't the Yankees and Mets be in the same division?

Expansion will be happening sooner rather than later. Seattle, OKC most likely. I like what the league is doing. If you want to expand the sport, you have to expand the market. Look at SJ. Nashville. Dallas. They were all doing well for a while. Carolina is the same. Some places miss like Atlanta but in principle it should work to get more kids playing the game which will only help things moving forward.

Maybe they can give Atlanta another franchise so they can move it to Canada again ;)

Seattle, Oklahoma, Quebec and maybe a second team in Toronto... Enough options for 2 additional teams.

Look at the NFC East Division: NY Giants, Washington, Philly..Dallas. Still, one of the things that it has done with such conferences is that teams have the same amount of travel.

8 away games vs 41. Mild difference.

No new system is going to appease everyone. I personally don't give a ****.

Yeah for everyone giving the NHL hell about the alignment plan, no one seems to bat an eye at the fact that MLB and NFL divisions are not based on geography at all.

And the wheels on the Chicago bus have come right off. Good for them, though - what a ******* streak.

Nothing worse than that smiling Tambellini with that stupid grin on his face when they get the first pick.

they better not be stupid enough to draft another forward... they havent picked a dman in recent years...
