I thought Barrett Hayton was a weird pick at the time, but he's really having a great season for the Greyhounds.

Man the Ducks look bad right now down 3-1 in the second. They just can't lose against a team like the Kings at home.

Looks like my prediction of us finishing above Buffalo might come true.
You're not the only one. While examining the standings about 2 weeks ago.......mostly looking below us, then looking slightly ahead of us. Noticed Buffalo, who at one time was looking like a PO team......somehow has been creeping closer and closer. At that time, was very concerned that they would bypass us. My gut rarely lies and I also know that Buffalo has "quite the experience" in always finding their way towards the bottom of the league. Now, we are but a point ahead. Like u said, ugggh.
Amazing how they can never find that "winning mentality". Their goaltending is horrific, and apparently their overall defense sucks......do they want Ruff back?

Speaking of lousy play. The Anaheim Dead Ducks somehow made the Kings look like the 2015 Kings. One would think in a game of "pond hockey" and with nothing on the line, and especially playing against their rivals.... the home team would want to win for their fans. No. Wrong answer. They are pathetic. I had hopes of them surpassing us, but after last night I am thinking the Dead Ducks are the brothers of Bob Hope. Their names are "No Hope".

Sabres have 5 games left against the likes of Detroit, Ottawa and NJD.

If they go 4-1 in those games, we're not passing them.

We had 7 such games ahead of us.
Maybe you missed my post in Red Wings gdt. I didn't do teams ahead of us.
Here......for easy reference. Again, this was BEFORE Detroit game.

They need to play their worst games vs the worst teams, and their best games vs the better teams and we should be okay.
In the meantime, I came up with this.
Lets assume the Panthers, Sabres, Avalanche & Coyotes...STAY ahead of us.
**only the teams tied or below, are accounted for**

**ONLY noting teams opponents vs "basically one another" included; Florida, Buffalo and Colorado....(as they are barely ahead and a possible win for teams below.
**Total amount of games in (parenthesis) Home team in CAPS.

PTS.
65..NYR(7)Det, NJ, Edm, Vanc, DET, Devils, OTT.

65....Edm.(7) VANC, NJD, Ariz, OTT, L.A., ANA, Colo
65....Vanc.(7) Edm, NYR, NJD, Chi, OTT, ANA, L.A.
63....Chi. (7) BUFF, ARIZ, VANC, Colo, COLO, Ariz, Kings
61....Anaheim(8) L.A., Ariz, Colo, FLA, Kings, Vanc, Edm, L.A.
59....NJD (7) Rangers, Edm, Vanc, Colo, ARIZ, BUFF, Det.
56....Los Angeles(9) Ariz, Ana, FLA, ANA, Edm, Vanc, CHI, Ariz, Ana
56....Detroit (7) Colo, NYR, Fla, Rangers, Buff, NJD, BUFF.

All things being equal (but they're not) if the Rangers can somehow go 2-5 in these 7 games, that would bode really well in teams passing us by. Remember, these are 4 point swing games......each and every one of them.
If we have to win....beat a good team, which bodes well for confidence, yet really is but a 2 point game. Know what I mean?

I was trying to see where the Leafs were at points wise after the same amount of games played last year . Anybody have any idea ? I googled it but getting nowhere with an answer .

Man, Stepan is so mediocre now.

I'll always love the kid but Gorton may have timed that perfectly.
It was the kind of move that the very best GM's have the balls to make. As a GM, you absolutely cannot become a fan of a beloved player. It literally "has to be" 100% be all about what is best for the team moving forward.
The kind of moves that he has just made in trading literally our best 2 passers and very productive players........never paying any mind on how popular they were. Business and what is best for the "team". Its about damned time.

Does anyone here think that Edmonton "wanted" to trade literally the best NHL player EVER? And maybe another top 10 in NHL history player? NO, just had to be done.

Tampa ripping apart Toronto in Toronto. Let's hope for Winnipeg exit early and Tampa winning it all for 3 first rounders and hey if Dallas can somehow win 2 rounds that's 4 first rounders. Hey one can dream right?!

Healthy McDonagh is so good. Helps when you have competent partners obviously. Imagine if we never let Stralman walk...........

Healthy McD, on a stacked team where he can play on the second pair also helps.

But it’s also important to remember that the McD deal wasn’t exclusively about what he’d be in 2019, or even 2020. It was also about what he’d be beyond that and how comfortable you are betting on those years.

The guy that coached that team is somewhere else now

That is true, but the Isles are on borrowed time. They're going to get cornhole'd by Pittsburgh if things hold as they are.

The horses don't exist there. Washington can and is more than willing to win dirty - which is what you really need to do to beat Tampa. They don't like being punched in the mouth and until they show me that they can play through that stuff, I'll continue to believe that they can't.

OTOH, how LOL worthy is it going to be to watch Toronto go out in the first round AGAIN?

Sure Boston and Washington can give Tampa a run for their money especially with the style they play. I don't think Rask is good enough to ward off all the offensive talent Tampa has. Of course if Washington and Holtby are on a roll they could take tampa 7 games again.
