I was listening to a podcast the other day....I wanna say it was blueshirts breakaway...and in the podcast they had the buffalo sabres writer from the athletic, forget who it was. Anyways he was talking about c.m. and basically said he's been a disappointment but he's still very young.

Same thing we'd say about lias.

Outside of Hischer and Petersson it looks like that whole 1st round needs a little bit more time than people generally expect from a first round these days. Will be very interesting to see how many actually make it, and how many of those that do are still on the team that drafted them...

That draft was always considered mostly crap...it's kinda played out that way tbh

Avs must be smiling as it seems like the true grim reality of Ottawa has set in.

One of the challenges I see emerging in the league is that we’ve become so accustomed to seeing younger players hit the ground running, that we now consider that a blanket expectation for most young players.

That’s going to lead to a lot more players potentially finding their games with their second teams. And from there the league with adjust and a new trend will take its place.

But it’s inportsnt to remember that while the league has gotten younger in recent years, the majority of kids still don’t come in like hang busters — especially when you start getting outside of the first handful of picks.

You’ll also notice that, much like building blocks, many of the kids do better when there’s already a talent base in place.

Boston, Toronto, Winnipeg and others are prime examples of this. But let’s not forget that the first wave of each of those squads didn’t necessarily come like gang busters. It was the subsequent waves that started to do that, once the groundwork was in place.

Sens lose, Wings lose, Eagles f***ing win...Hopefully the Hawks and Oilers can get some points so this sports day isn't a total disaster

Something to consider with the 2017 draft.

Most people felt, and still feel that the Knights had a great draft with Glass, Suzuki, Brannstrom, Hague, etc.

And yet, as of today, not a single one of them has played an NHL game.

They're all putting up very good to great numbers in juniors or the AHL, but that Grade A crop has not yet played in the NHL.

Glass was taken before Andersson, and both Suzuki and Brannstrom were taken ahead of Chytil.

I point this out for a few reasons:

1. Our duo has performed at least just as well in the AHL thus far.

2. It is still way too early to get caught up in NHL success.

3. I will double down on my statement that if Andersson and Chytil were tearing up junior hockey, we wouldn't be having half the "concern" that we do.

This a thousand times! I've seen the same mistake being made when it comes to people comparing Kravtsov to Wahlstrom where they literally say that "Kravtsov only has 6 goals in the KHL so Wahlstrom is the better prospect"

Lias started playing pro hockey at age 17, was an integral part to HV71 winning the SHL at age 18 and then continued his development in the AHL and was even part of the senior national team winning the World Championships at age 19.

People seem to forget Lias had a great career in junior hockey, or simply don't know because it was in Sweden. But as a 16/17-year old he put up numbers unheard of for decades.

I’ll be honest, I’d prefer to see Chytil in the AHL playing big minutes and building his confidence away from the mess that is the NHL team right now. I’m beginning to feel similarly about Howden

Dylan Strome scored.
Its almost like giving him a chance actually made sense

I don't know about him.

He's doing better, but better is somewhat subjective term.

I definitely don't see a first line center at this point, and I'm not sure I see a particularly promising second line center.

I think he can still have a solid NHL career, but I'm not seeing signs that the pieces are all suddenly coming together. I see a kid who is getting a lot of time, on a particularly bad team, who didn't take him third overall.

How does that translate over the long haul? Still not totally sure on that.

This is all true...but I think, as someone whose been critical of lias, that you're assuming people are being critical of him because he wasn't scoring.

Chytil isn't scoring.
Howden isn't scoring.

You don't hear me bringing up these red flags against them.

My issues with lias are about how he plays, not how much he produces.

I think in today's game you need to be a terrific skater OR a terrific board player to be any sorta impact player. Right now lias is neither and he's not really even marginally effective at either.

The other thing, besides his balance which I've mentioned a lot, that bothers me about his game is that, for a guy who was constantly praised for his battle level and his compete level and his leadership and all this...he sure..well, I'll just say it, plays kinda lazy out there a lot.

There's a whole lot of float to his game here. I don't need every player to compete like fasth does, but I honestly would say that lias' compete level was strikingly poor.

I'm sure I'm gonna get killed for it, but whatever, it's just how I've see .him.

The reason howden never gets benched is because the kid competes out there...I didn't see that like...at all, from lias. That, was the most disappointing thing about his game.

Truth be told, I can’t say I saw the floating or laziness.

I saw a young player playing a fairly limited role, most often with fairly limited linemates, and not building any momentum from it.

So I don’t know if there was much of a scenario for him to go out and do those things. Just like there wasn’t many scenarios for Chytil to go out and do his different thing when he was in the same role.

And I don’t know if I’d have noticed it as much if I didn’t also watch Chytil struggle with the same assignments, and also see the drop and play from an established player like Zibanejad when Quinn tried to use him to spark some of the other “talents” on the roster.

So for me, it was more along the lines of “here we go again.”

And see I didn't notice any of it with chytil..everyone is a little floaty....but lias was super floaty. At least imho

And frankly, I still go back to wondering if both guys are destined for the wings anyway.
I've long felt they are both wingers. Howden screams center...there isn't even a remote thought to putting him on the flank...but those 2...you see some holes in their game that aren't really best served by having them in the middle.

I was a bit disappointed to hear that Quinn still thinks Chytil is a center.

Chytil at center kind of reminds me of Kovalev at center.

You see the size and skill, and flashes of it looking like it could be amazing, but ultimately we're looking at a wing.

I think putting him at center complicates the game for him.

STL now only 3 points behind us and if Chicago can hold on against the Flames they'll be level on points (with a few more games played). We're starting to really head towards the bottom of the standings

a three point game would have been nice. I think Philly will eventually do enough to pass us by but right now they are looking like they are on life support and they could be big sellers at the deadline. I totally forgot JVR was on that team. 6 goals this year. Yikes. 7 million bucks worth.
and of course the Hawks can't hold on to a freaking lead.
