And softer defense. Physicality is fading away.
I am not sure how to quantify it outside of hits or shot blocking. I am arguing with someone because he his fighting to die on the hill that the goalie pads being smaller and stuff are why scoring is, but this season so far looks identical to 2005-06

So did he in fact play himself?

Edit: Also thanks for coming to my aid. I was starting to lose sanity trying to re read his post like I missed something.

No idea, but I'd love to hear the explanation behind it

And yeah, I had to re-read the conversation several times trying to work out what was going on or what I'd missed....

I always thought they should have the outdoor games in non traditional hockey markets to show the game to people that dont normally get to see it live, it might actually do something to help build a fan base. Putting it in NY, Montreal, Boston etc doesnt do much to help gather fans who wouldnt normally watch. Jmo. A place like Regina imo would be ideal depending on the time of year you had it. I also think the conference champions should be in it the following year , though I doubt that actually happens.

I thought that was the idea of the Stadium Series but I think they fell into the trap of the WC and using the same teams and now over saturate like that. Like, the SS games in Cali, Minnesota, Colorado and such are excellent. I always thought prioritize the WC for O6 teams and early expansion teams, Heritage games for Canadian teams and SS for less conventional teams.

That's a ticket league mentality, which is what the NHL is through and through. I think the ultimate goal should be a nationwide TV audience. Game of the week, must see viewing. Like hockey night in Canada. One time a year the NHL has a day all to itself.

Going Rangers-Flyers is a fantastic way to kill it in regional ratings, not so much anywhere outside of the philly/NY area. LA was on the way up in 2012 and that, to me, is a television wet dream for ratings. LA/NY with both teams playing well and a possible cup match up.

The NHL has lofty goals but the vision of a little town. Pittsburgh Buffalo, Chicago Detroit. This league is about equity and parity, but success will lie in favoring marque match ups. Use your good teams in great markets, feature your stars, do anything to gain a foothold with a national audience. NBA fans didn't cry about LA-Miami on Christmas, MLB fans tuned in for NY-Bos, Wings-Avs in the late 90s was the national game and we sure as hell put it on. The NHL has to play favorites with the winter classic.

Alright boys, current scoring is up. 3.06 GPG this year so far. What are we thinking it's due to? My bet is on powerplays and a lot more scoring talent.
I think it’s the powerplays but it’s also what they’re cracking down on against defenders, the NHL is trying to follow the NFL by making it harder to defend. And to the talent point, I’ve heard people cite the younger players really working on their shooting and puck skills in the offseason waaay more than previous generations, so they’re able to regularly beat goalies on angles/shots that were high percentage plays for the goalie, I.e. goalies sealing off the post but getting beat high from the corners

Good night on the scoreboard minus those fraud Hurricanes and Detroit.

Anybody see Giroux absolutely undress McDonagh?

One of the prettiest goals you'll ever see

McDonagh had a very off night, was a -4 last night. As I said before Tampa's Defense has been overlooked by the fact they score at least 4 goals like every game but give up 3 on average a game. But it took them 6 goals to win last night. This is going to be a concern if not corrected as it gets deeper into the season and teams become more competitive and their Top 6 gets fatigued, since Cooper rides the Point/Kucherov line a lot.
