Caps are the same team they always are: live and die by the PP. Stay out of the box and take advantage of their mediocre defense and goaltending and you'll win.

Caps just tied it up on the power play, goal by Backstrom. Grabovski looks really good with this Caps squad on the power play.

Just watched most of the Devils game. Here are my thoughts on our crosstown rivals.

- They have a good amount of depth at forward. They forecheck/cycle well but don't generate as many shots/chances as you'd think with the amount of possession they have. Mostly though they just cycle and never get a good shot on goal. It's terribly boring to watch.
- Their defensive corps is not good at all. Zidlicky - Salvador, Volchenkov - Harrold as a bottom 4 is awful. They are all old/slow and are terrible offensively besides Zidlicky maybe on the PP. They were caught multiple times on the break after having possession in the offensive zone for a while and this lead to a few goals against tonight.
- Clowe is a useful forward. Having him healthy along with Staal in the playoffs last year would have made a big difference. He's bound to get hurt soon though lol.
- Jagr is done. He looks like he's skating in mud and looks like he lost a good amount of strength on the puck. He had several blatant turnovers. Maybe it's because he missed all of preseason, but it's just sad to see such a dominant player in his prime like this now.
- Ryder is useless unless he has the puck on his stick. Even then he's hit or miss. He will not be a difference maker for the Devils. I didn't notice him at all.
- Schneider is a great positional butterfly goalie, but he was letting up juicy rebounds all night, one which led directly to a goal. He also let in a softy from the slot. So much for his amazing preseason.

Ever been there in person? It's even worse than on television.

I used to go down to DC every year, now every other year, but I've never caught a game.

I'll have to try and catch one next time im there just to experience the atrocity in person.

When Alexander Barkov scored his first NHL goal tonight, he became the youngest modern era NHL player to score a goal.

I hope all the best for this kid.

Capitlawls already making an appearance. Fortunately for us it appears to be a seasonal appearance; this team simply isn't that good.

You spoke too soon. :sarcasm:

Ovechkin looks like he's picking up right where he left off last season. Nice to see him returning to his old form..

Ovechkin just turned 28 and he's 26 goals away from 400th NHL goal. Kinda scary when you think about it. If he stays healthy this season he'll definitely hit that mark this year....

Ovie may become the first player in over 30 years to have 700 goals in his career should he stay healthy and keep scoring at the clip he's been at.

Kind of amazing to think about.

If he stays healthy, in 6 years (seasons) time he should definitely reach 600 goals... This is a conservative estimate assuming an average of 35 goals or so a season.... If he goes on a tear and has some 50 goal seasons, he'll get there a bit sooner....

Trying to imagine what Stamkos will do... He's 23 right now and already has 200 goals....

It's so impressive to see these players scoring at this rate by today's NHL standards.... When you watch the games from the 70's / 80's you see how much different the gameplay was and how little of the net the goaltenders were able to cover....

really breathless place between Isles and Devs. Devs trying to match Isles' run and gun tempo, it's sort of working....
