Shero makes up for his bad drafting by being really good at trading.
So many GMs to take advantage of, it's amazing that anyone can be bad at trading. It's like that quote from Rounders.

Listen, here's the thing. If you can't spot the sucker in your first half hour at the table, then you are the sucker.

There are a few NHL GMs who need to look in the mirror after reading this quote. I'd wager 95% of HF could take Benning, Bergevin, or Chiarelli in a trade.

Well the current NHL power rankings and thx. for The hockey guy for hours of his spare time using sources, but the list will change for sure later this season.

We know for 100% that Bob Gainey got fleeced.

I'm on board with calling any lottery won player luck, but I'm going to disagree that a GM making good moves is luck. Just seems like a GM being better than other GMs to me.

I don't know if it's luck or connections, but these things aren't being posted on a board for bid. So if Chia comes to you and wants to trade Hall, you move quick and hope he doesn't talk to anyone else. Cause if he announced Hall was for sale, I'll guarantee they would have gotten more. So there's an element of dumb luck there that you're able to pull this off without the other Gm doing their due diligence. You can't control that.

Sounds like a smart GM taking advantage of a dumb GM doing dumb things :dunno: I guess it can be considered "lucky" that Chia called Shero, if we're assuming that's what happened here, but I still don't like the precedent it implies.

is there any other team in sports especially hockey that declares "this is their year to break out and be a playoff contender" as the Carolina hurricanes? With all of the "amazing" defensive prospects and young talent they have what are they waiting for to go out there and get a goalie if thats their issue?

They did. Darling was supposed to be the next Raanta or Talbot.

There's like an 85% chance that if you get traded by Chia you become an elite player.

We've been doing wrong this whole time.

Seattle balances out the conferences and presumably will have the same draft status as Vegas. I’d rather suck this year than have to worry about the decreased odds in the 2020 lottery.

I tend to agree, I'd say 3-4 is the "worst" scenario that I keep arriving at.

ESPN and the Athletic are the 2 recent power rankings I've looked at.

Both have a bottom 6 (worst leading) including the same teams, different order. One has the Rangers 5th, one 6th.

There's always a dark horse team though I feel - someone that's ranked low to mid 20s who is going to be awful. A Dallas, Anaheim, Calgary type team who could get some big injuries and just fall apart.

I would prob go

OTT
MTL
DET
NYR
VAN

ESPN
Ottawa
Detroit
Vancouver
Montreal
Rangers
Islanders

Athletic
Ottawa
Vancouver
Detroit
Montreal
Islanders
Rangers

I think the big thing for this team will be the start. If they get off to a poor start, when the deadline rolls around, the team will be losing some key pieces. I don't see Montreal having much to sell. Ottawa maybe loses Duchene or Stone
