Nothing like beginning a half-assed rebuild when your goalie is 31 years old and just starting his 8/$84m contract.

The Habs are terrible and they're going to be bad for a while and I love it.
We're going to love it until they luck their way into Jack Hughes and Alexis Lafreniere.

I mean, even if they finish 31st they have like a 50% chance of drafting 4th OA, so I'll take those odds. And it's still a Bergevin run team, and Hughes is American so like, how well is that going to work out for them?

Bergevin inherited a team with Price, Pacioretty, Subban and Galchenyuk and has traded 3 of them. And it's not like these guys were old when he got there.

The Lightning, Bruins and Leafs are going to rack up a ton of points this season beating up on the Habs, Senators and Sabres in the Atlantic.

Touche. Acquiring a young, skilled French Canadian to build around didn't work out either.

I'd guess VGK had plenty of positive dialogue with Pacioretty camp about the prospects of an extension before the trade. hefty price to pay otherwise. He should sign in the next few days before camp starts.

Hah

Vegas making out good there. Basically get's Pacioretty for the rest of his prime, and then dump him when the teams window is closed

GMGM is a donk.

Coulda just resigned James Neal and kept Suzuki and the pick. Who cares about Tatar and his caphit, even with they had 10M+ capspace with only Schmidt to resign in the next 2 years.

Or, like, gotten Karlsson. lol.

Donk.

I'm sure that video is going to do a lot to soften the blow when Ottawa trades Karlsson.

That’s rough. Especially considering they’re more than likely getting a ton of ‘future hope’ in any kind of trade (especially because of the rebuild). Basically rolling the dice after giving up a super elite player. Woof.
