So nice to read this. They worked and built everything up for years. I see some similarities in what Pat is doing as well – but also some differences, e.g. with attention to recoveries (from what we've heard about Cronin, it is not their focus, sadly). But the Cats had hard learnings there as well so we'll see. I think we have a lot of fundamentals in place

Isles have waived Pierre Engvall, just one year into his seven year deal (3M AAV). It was a pretty bizarre contract at the time but it almost seems just as crazy to write it off already.
His numbers don’t look completely awful at first glance, I wonder if there’s some sort of behind the scenes locker room thing going on there

He just ends up falling into a bit of a tweener category. Hasn't shown to be more than a lower end top 9 producer offensively and isn't the ideal 4th liner at 3M nor if you are looking for grit and physicality out of that checking line.

He's a bigger body and fast, able to PK and just decent all around but the lack of grit really holds him back from being any sort of standout. He's NHL caliber but was just such a bizarrely mediocre choice to give a nearly max commitment. One year later they've found a cheap free agent (Tsyplakov) who has played him out of a top 9 spot.

Maybe just an overall comment around the NHL, it is hilarious to read Reddit fanbases' optimistic opinions on their teams compared to HF fans.

On the Flyers' boards it's hilariously pessimistic on Drysdale, but on the other hand a Reddit post gets lots of enthusiasm about Drysdale being an "S-tier" addition to the blueline.

Engvall has a similar profile to Leason. I wonder if Verbeek acquires him if they take McGinn's expiring contract if they are willing to include a decent pick or prospect. Seems like the big/fast complementary type of player Verbeek wants.

If there was a fair bit less term on the contract maybe, but with six years remaining I just can't see PV going for it

It’s like that for HF and Facebook too. On HF, Fowler sucks but it’s because he’s put in a higher role than he should. On Facebook, Fowler has killed their kid’s favorite pet.

Seravelli continues to be a complete knob. In his 32 bold predictions article, his prediction for Columbus has now been edited I believe four times.

First read "with a little help from Gaudreau, the CBJ will win the draft lottery"

Then changed it to "with a little help from Gaudreau in heaven..."

Then "with a little help from above"

Finally now just simply predicts that they will win the lottery after a tough year, with an editorial included apologizing for Frank's dumbass wording.

Seravalli is the worst, I wish I could block everything relating to him or by him, just get more and more dumb after reading it.

That’s a real weird interview with Dan Bylsma:

You mention being energized. Did you lose that desire to coach at some point in the past?

“Well, there have been times when I’ve purposely and sometimes not purposely changed my demeanor a little bit with the team, with the group. I look back on that as a mistake now and don’t want that to be the case anymore going forward.”

You mean whatever you were feeling was coming out toward them?

“Yes. I’d say whether by hook or crook, sometimes the game can force, you can be humiliated by the game and that can change your demeanor. At times, I changed it of my own accord. I lament that the last two years have reenergized my focus on what it means to be the head coach for both the individual and the player. That’s the way it will be going forward.”

Huh? Was there an incident with him? This is cagey as hell.

i remember there were rumors he was a complete prick in pittsburgh

he also coached a couple seasons in buffalo, which would drain any coach's love for the game

Boston’s not good. That roster is aging and frankly just not that impressive

Still probably a playoff team, but not a real contender. Similar roster as last year. Maybe even a tad better with the Zadorov and Lindholm adds.
