Dunno where to post this but CK said he's still technically a rookie, i thought he played enough games to disqualify him from rookiehship?

Josh Bailey with 3.3 per for 5 years. That Isles team looks good on paper. Looks like all those years of sucking is starting to pay off.

That 3.3 has to be the starting point for Stepan.

That's such a ridiculous contract for 30 point player  damn you Garth Snow. This isn't just a starting point for Stepan. This is ammo for Stepan to demand $5M

Bailey is in no way a comparable for Stepan.

Bailey was arbitration eligible; Stepan isn't.
Bailey was 2 season from UFA; Stepan is 4.

During round 1 and 2, I was listening to XM almost daily at lunch breaks and the TSN guys were saying that Stepan will probably get no less than $5m/y.

Those guys are wrong a lot. I wouldn't worry about it.

It depends a lot on how many years Stepan signs for, but I guarantee you his AAV will be less than 5 mil.

Remember when these were all over the Devils board last trade deadline:

Well apparently now he's back to being a 60 pt forward...

Don't know where to put this, but NHLN has been airing old SCF highlights. Many DET/MTL highlights from the 50's. So many great names.

Really sad that Blake Geoffrion had to retire because of the skull fracture. I know he didn't have a great pro career (albeit brief) but he was a lot of fun to watch in college and it was cool seeing him wear a Canadians jersey even only for a few games.

And to anyone here who saw, Blum signed a two way deal with Minnesota. He gets to go home and try it there. Low risk good depth deal.

Also, how is Mason Raymond not signed? The other guys are all in their 30s and have some baggage, but he's still young and fast enough to make an impact.

If it is a 2 year bridge, which it most likely is not, he should get a bit lower than the Duschene deal which is totally comparable IMO. Duschene - also a center - got 3,5M per for 2 years with better stats coming into negotiations and being a much higher pick which does have an effect on a second salary deal this early in a career. Right or wrong, that is how it works. Any year after that the NYR will need to add a bit of ca$h per annum of course, but no way does he get $5M AAV. Not 4 years away from UFA and non arbitration eligible with Glen Sather. Not a chance.

100% correct BBkers. Even though Stepan was awesome this year, Sather and Gordon will use the "that was only a 48 game season, now do it in an 82 game season when it's gonna be 10x harder to make the playoffs because of realignment" logic.

mcdonagh was arbitration eligible and didnt even get 5 million why do these "experts" think step is gonna get at least 5? also arent these the same guys who said dz would get something like 4.5+?

Duchene signed in 2012, prior to the lockout. The Avs were operating under a 70.2 mil cap, though yes, it was expected to go down.

IMO, Giroux is a better comparable. He signed a 3 year deal in 2011, when the cap was 64.3 mil, same as it is next year. The deal had a 3.75 mil AAV, but the first 2 years paid him 2.75 and 3.5 mil, for a 3.125 average.

I figured Stepan, being a little less accomplished, would get something like 2.5 and 3.25, for a 2.875 AAV. Assuming, of course, that he only gets 2 years. A three year deal would probably be around 3.5 mil AAV.
