The best part of the Devils losing is Chico's misery. It feels so good to hear him squeal.

BillyRedden-TheBanjoKidFromDeliverance.jpg

The devils are goalless in 149:06.

Balanced scoring.

The Devils have hit rock bottom when Chico has given up on them. In the 3rd period,he was crying about the cavalry not coming to save the Devils and "there are no forwards in Albany Steve". Lou has given out some doozy contracts. Besides Jagr and Zidlicky, all of their veteran players are signed past this season. Brodeur is in the last season of his contract but they aren't trading him. The 3 year 35 plus contracts to Elias and Zubrus. The Clowe disaster. The Rangers were either smart enough to avoid Clowe or they didn't have the space. The Rangers didnt have the space. If they had the space, would they have signed Clowe? What happened to Zajac? Look at that contract. First year of an eight year deal. They don't have their #1 in June because Lou decided to wait until the fourth and final year to forfeit the pick from the Kovalchuk penalty. The Sixers are a better team than the Devils and the Sixers are planning to win 20 games this season. :) Josh Harris and Scott O'Neil should give Lou an extension so he can remain Devils boss for another 10 years. He will be 80 and still running the Devils.

Report: According to a trusted media source, Patrick Kaleta will be placed on re-entry waivers where he is expected to be claimed.

Any truth to this? I know Dagoon has called some stuff before.

I don't think there is a thing as re-entry waivers anymore.

Chico is a has been like at least half of the Devils roster. They actually fit well together. Watched the first period--just because it was Parise's first game against his 'old' team. Zach was smart enough to jump ship.

Devils fans have jumped all over DeBoer and maybe there's good reason but they're a lot more reluctant than to go after Lou. He's the guy who gm'd them to 3 pre-lockout Stanley Cups. The last of those was at least 10 years ago. How could he not be the same genius? The consensus seems to be he deserves more leeway. It's ****ing nuts. Rangerboy pointed out the Zajac contract--that's 8 years for about $45 mil--that's a big cap hit for a guy who doesn't produce much offense. The deal started this year. He was so afraid of losing another core piece after Parise that he gave the farm away to Zajac--money he should have given to Parise. I was in argument with some Devils posters this summer over Zajac's contract--they thought it was great. The guy is really good defensively but his production is like a good 3rd line center. Some of them are delusional enough to think his defense is so good that even with the lack of production he's a 1st liner.

Add the Clowe contract. Crazy. The over 35 contracts. Crazy. Merrill is a fine looking prospect--real 1st round ability in his draft year who had some discipline issues that dropped him to the second. He continued to have discipline issues afterwards. He's got talent but there are some ifs. They have some nice defense prospects. Only two decent forward prospects. Reid Boucher--a kind of smallish sniper who needs to work on his skating and Stephan Matteau who looks to me like if he pans out he'll be a good bottom 6'er. Why Lou took Matteau instead of forfeiting the pick is the reason they won't be picking until the 2nd round this year barring a trade for a 1st. Other than not much. This is a team that needs a complete rebuild.

Anyway don't like the Devils and don't mind their house of cards finally collapsing around their ears. It's been a long time coming. It's like someone stringing it out--stringing it out. It's a ****ed up thing that happened to Merrill. I did not like to see that. Hopefully he'll be okay but that looked like a concussion at the very least.

Dagoon's made a lot of good calls in the past.

There's a lot of speculation that Kaleta will not come to the NHL ever again. Obviously it could go either way. What DR said pretty much is that he wants him to clean up play and it's gonna take some heat off the organization and Patrick. Guys over on the Sabres board have some more exact links if you want. Tropp is essentially gettin Patrick'a minutes and role. It doesn't really matter a whole lot to an extent save that tropp needs some development and playing time since he has had almost none in the last one to two years. They're in tank commander mode. That being said, I liked Kaleta (excluding dirty play) for what he was on the bottom 6. Hope he fares better.

The Rangers lost to both the Flyers and Devils this year. And for that they should be ashamed of themselves because those are two trainwreck rosters.

However, it's clear that it's taking the Rangers time to get their **** together under a new coach versus having zero talent, especially on defense. The Flyers and Devils roster is just skill devoid, though the Flyers look a little better. Worst of all, neither team seems to have any stars or depth in their organisations to support a quick youth led turn around. And man those albatross contracts...

I know tonight is going to be a very tough game, but if we lose I hope we don't see the fire Sather nonsense again. He hasn't done a great job, but our divisional and long time rivals have shown that it is possible to do a much, much, much worse job.

I know you are messing around with that. But for the fans here who may be letting those losses get to them...the Rangers have had their injuries while still trying to adjust to a new coach and new system contrary to what they were used to the last 4 years. Of course it was going to take time. It would be naive and misguided to judge them on the losses to NJ and PHI. You could see they are starting to play the way we expected them too. Forget that they beat Carolina and Buffalo. They beat the Islanders, who believe it or not, have a good team this year. They also beat Detroit, another solid team. The Islanders looked stellar against Boston on Saturday. The Rangers are a good team too. Yes they could use some pieces (at the deadline) as well a clean bill of health on Nash and Callahan.

I'm absolutely just kidding with that comment. As a lifelong doom and gloomer fan, I'm feeling optimistic for once. The talent at MSG is good, certainly good enough to contend, we aren't in cap hell, and the team is actually trying to play hockey rather than that abomination of an unwatchable travesty that it was doing last season. But most refreshing for me is that we seem to be finding good players despite our middling draft position and there are enough of them to continue feeding a steady stream of cheap, young talent that can actually play at the NHL level.

This is where organizations like the Flyers and Devils are in real deep ****. I just don't see who they can call up who has a prayer of keeping up with the big game. That means a very long, very painful rebuild ahead, that is if their respective management teams can ever even embrace the concept of rebuilding.

Any chance the Devils use a compliance buy out on Clowe this summer?

I may be wrong on this but Compliance buyouts are for pre-lockout contracts only, lets teams avoid the recapture penalty, any contracts signed post-lockout follow different rules.

Right, that makes sense. Hope the devils enjoy him for the next 4 years or however long that ridiculously bad contract runs. lol

The Devils essentially replaced Kovalchuk, Parise, Clarkson, Sykora and Ponikarovsky from their Stanley Cup Finals squad with Jagr, Ryder, Clowe, Brunner and Olesz.

That may not look that bad on paper, but you have to take into account the types of players here. Jagr has been their best forward, and he's 41!!! Ryder and Brunner are inconsistent 1-way forwards: the antithesis of Devils hockey. Clowe could be a good replacement for Clarkson but he is damaged goods. Olesz should not be an NHL regular.

Quantity never equals quality. I wouldn't trade those 5 for Kovalchuk alone.

That is correct. They probably will use that other compliance on Volchenkov. He still has two years left at 4.25 million.

Have the Devs used a buyout yet?

They have so many bad contracts to buy out. Notably Zajac and Volchenkov. Lou ****ed this team so bad.

It's a beautiful sight.

That was a regular buyout I think.

Nevermind it was complinace. So the Devils are stuck with Zajac for 7 years or Volchenkov for 2 and I honestly don't know which is worse. Volchenkov is truly a horrible player now. At least Zajac isn't TOTALLY awful?

Rostislav Olesz waived by the Devils.. Devils are trying to waive their garbage.

i wish NYR would waive Pyatt already. is he somehow related to AV because that would explain the continue ice time with 0 results. he is useless as a hockey player..

Pyatt is a fine option on the 4th line. In fact, the Pyatt/Boyle/Dorsett line has been very good when used in that capacity. The issue is that injuries have forced Pyatt up the depth chart, and there isn't a whole lot the team can do to fix that.

I just heard on the radio that the scuttlebutt among top goal tenders in the league is that they cannot believe that The Rangers are playing checken with Henrik's contract. And the the icelanders could very well be licking their chops waiting for Sather to screw this up.

Should we be worried?
