Matt Cooke is head and shoulders better than any of our bottom 6 so most of us would have welcomed him here with open arms.

I didn't realize you spoke for "most of us" on this board. In fact, you seem to be in a small minority on most things.

It sure did. Memories of massive fear in 94, and a reminder of how amazingly exceptional he was. Good post, thanks.

yea its a shame that when he became a Ranger, it was too late...

he had some moments as a Ranger but sadly that team stunk and had no direction.

I'm with you. Renney and Torts had their strengths and weaknesses, but they iced teams that played honest hockey and built integrity into the team. I personally wouldn't want a guy like Cooke anywhere near this organization.

but Sather did sign Brashear :help:

I feel bad for Dallas Eakins.

I don't, he will find a place in the NHL if he cannot turn Edmonton in to the next dynasty. The Oilers management are delusional on how they view their team going forward. There are no dynasties in the nu-NHL. Look at Pittsburgh. They have two of the top-5 players in the world and a bunch of other great players. They've managed one cup since the second lockout. None of this is Eakins fault.

Edmonton needs to start moving some of their star forward potential prospects for a goaltender. They also need more proven young defensemen and two-way players. They're still a young team, and a lot of them will only get better going forward, but the emphasis on scoring talent has left too many holes elsewhere. Taylor Hall when healthy is probably (arguably) the best LW in the NHL. He and Eberle have the most NHL ready games on the team.

If they cannot turn that roster in to a contender soon, Lowe and Co. should be ashamed.

FWIW Kaleta cleared which is fine by me. The guy is a dangerous player and a suspension waiting to happen. Wouldn't want Cooke as well--don't believe he's cleaned up his act either.

Don't worry Mess will be the next Oil coach, and the old boys reunion will be complete Lowe, MacT and Mess.

Dude, your "everyone on every other team is head and shoulders better than anyone on the Rangers" act is getting old. Either Lundqvist walks on water (I don't remember if every other goalie in the NHL is head and shoulders better than him though) or you're plain wrong. A team that has every other team in the NHL be head and shoulders better than anyone than them every year, would be in the top 5 drafting every year, not in playoff position. Oh and with everyone healthy Brassard and Hags or Cally are in our bottom 6. Matt Cooke is better than them? What ridiculousness. You clearly get your jollies by bashing the team, but at least try being somewhat realistic.

Kreider - Stepan - Zuccarello
Nash - Brassard - Callahan
Hagelin - Richards - Pouliot

Cooke is better than 3 of these players. Ok.

And Asham, and Shelley, and Scott.

This team has and had its fair share of not-so-clean players through the years (not all of which had to do with Sather).

Asham one suspension in 15 years as a pro = dirty player. Arron never turned down a challenge--no matter how big a player or what reputation he carried. He never ducked and he never turtled. I get that his skating is not up to par any more and he's a marginal NHL level player at this point in time but he paid his dues and he always played hard. When he got sent down to Hartford--he didn't ***** or cry--he took it with good grace.

Ottawa is such a skill-heavy team. Makes you wonder what's holding them back. It's certainly not goaltending or coaching.

Spezza is playing great but his salary makes him the guy they'd probably love to move.

Ottawa are incredibly top heavy. After Michalek and Ryan (very streaky) they have no reliable goal scorers. Spezza is an awesome player, Turris looks like he'll be good, and then who else? Zibby is still young, Conacher is insanely streaky, and their D isn't good enough to make up for their forward corps being thin. I will say though, they have a lot of good role players. I'd love Zack Smith or Chris Neil on this team.
