The Sabres definitely need to get him out of Columbus.

Ryan Johnson-Jiricek as a pair sounds good to me.

Would be nice for once to see our organization profit from another organization's stupidity instead of the other way around.

Jiricek has some Ristolainen vibes when I watch him. I took in two Columbus home games in December when my son was there playing, and watched him.

Yeah, he needs to keep working on his game. It seems like Jarmo has lost the thread with how they've pulled Jiricek up and sent him back down, often without playing much or at all. I would guess that if they had just left him cook in Cleveland to work on things like his defensive reads and his leg strength instead of using him like a roster yo-yo, this probably isn't an issue. Kinda like how Buffalo has been with Kulich - also given Kulich's comments in TBN, he is all aboard his development plan too. It's interesting to see two teams not known for their competitiveness take very different paths with their two Czech bluechippers.

Weren't you comparing them in Jiricek's draft year too? Or was that someone else?

Anyway, he's not a guy who helps the team now. This is a trade for a rebuilding team, not us, unless they want to trade for a winger on the Amerks.

That may have been me - I wanted to see more and then he got the knee injury. Some guys I will watch and just feel like they have "it" and some guys I watch and just have questions. I had some questions about how Jiricek moved and read plays - had a preference for Nemec at the time (still do).

(Then there are others doing things who I watch and just fight the urge to wrinkle my nose. :biglaugh: As not a scout, I admit that any of the three categories can make it or that any of the three can bust. I've never really put the resources into trying to see how my own personal preferences have turned out - maybe if I go deeper into isolation, I will. )

And you are correct, dealing to get Jiricek is not helping the Sabres right now. He's a player who is still not yet complete and it shows in his time in C'Bus.

Jiricek is the IDEA of a guy that I think would be ideal to trade for -- young, top 2 pair upside, right-handed.

The issue is that CBJ largely has a prospect pool similar to ours, and they'd likely want a more NHL-ready defenseman coming back (and no, @Beerz , Power is NOT on the table for Jiricek). Ideally we find a team that actually wants one or more of our winger cadre that has a defenseman to spare.

I was part of it, but @Chainshot and Mark Edwards pointed it out as well. Mark owns Hockey Prospect and pointed out a lot of what he thought were Jiricek's flaws. Lots of raw physical talent but not very good in his own zone, and somewhat of a lower hockey IQ for a player so talented.

Of course he's not on the table.... but he definitely should be on the table.

Interesting list at TSN. Top 25 NHL players. No Eichel, Reinart at 15 and no sabres players....Obviously. Interesting that Reinhart has pulled ahead of Eichel.

this is shocking beyond belief. <sarcasm>

I bet you have to look in the next 25-50 to see even a hint of a mention of a Sabre (Dahlin would be my guess).

I love these results. The only thing that would make it better would be Brady Tkachuk and Eichel making it out of the group of "other" players.

Marchand has to be upset that he's not #1.

Don't know anything about Jurmo. But that's a pretty solid haul for the Flames, especially if Kuzmenko rounds back into form.

I like Kuzmenko. When he plays his game, he’s someone the Sabres need. Although at this point he’s a salary match on any trades. Last year he woulda been the main return, even though I think he was still on a ELC then.
