Sounds like a bit of pressure on wanting to burn that ELC year.

Will be curious to find out if Adams was in on this. Obviously it also depends on what Philly wanted, but a swap of one of our forward prospects (Rosen?) fo Gauthier could have been interesting.
If you were the Flyers, would you want to trade him to a team in the East?I'd love Gauthier but were we on his list? I'm sure we could match that deal.
Why, Anaheim has a ton of young talent. Just in the forwards you have McTavish, Zegras, and Carlsson so with Gauthier you can slot him at C or use him as power winger. Personally I slot him next to McTavish as 2/3 of a nasty lineSeems like a head case to me. Really odd unless someone in the organization insulted his family or something.
I also find it interesting they shipped him to the Ducks, almost like "you don't want to play here? Well go toil away on this shit team."

Trade a player that wanted out/wouldn’t sign. You may remember it as how we acquired Tage Thompson and Ryan Johnson (RoR), Devon Levi and Jiri Kulich (Reinhart), Alex Tuch, Noah Ostlund, Jordon Greenway, Peyton Krebs (Eichel), Isak Rosen and Anton Wahlberg (Ristolainen) and Gavin McCarthy (Portillo)I was told the only trades that exist are ones where you "mortgage the future" "for a rental at the deadline." what was this thing the Ducks and Flyers did?
There was all sorts of talk when Briere was hired that he wanted to build out their blueline. Will be curious to find out if Adams was in on this. Obviously it also depends on what Philly wanted, but a swap of one of our forward prospects (Rosen?) fo Gauthier could have been interesting.
There are always situations, like with Chychrun last year, that come up.I was told the only trades that exist are ones where you "mortgage the future" "for a rental at the deadline." what was this thing the Ducks and Flyers did?
With Gauthier not talking about why he froze out the Flyers, everyone is left to guess. There is some scuttlebutt that he and Kevin Hayes are close and that Hayes may have poisoned the well. Sounds like there were teams he would sign with and he used that agency to get to one of them. Anaheim has an amazing collection of young defensemen, the trio of young centers, and a need for wing scoring that Gauthier could fill for them in spades.
What D do you think the Sabres could have offered up that would have been more attractive to Briere than Drysdale was?I'd love Gauthier but were we on his list? I'm sure we could match that deal.

But, those are outliers and not the usual deals that you will see between now and the TDL. 80%+ of guys that move between now and the deadline are going to be players that are short on team control.
Besides, the Sabres are not short on prospects and young players. They need vets that know how to win.

Is it that he wanted to be guaranteed NHL games played at the end of last season and to start his ELC and the Flyers balked?
Was it the hiring of Torts?
Those are two of the various theories that have been thrown out there as people guess away...

Drysdale being a RHD could have been a factor, as well.It might be more like Ryan Johnson/Rosén
/1st than an exact like for like but we do have pieces. If Briere was dead set on a top 2 defenseman, then no.
I think that was a huge factor.Drysdale being a RHD could have been a factor, as well.

If this becomes a trend among draftees...The one college insider seems to think it was the not burning ELC time that was a deciding factor.

I would have built something around Power easily
