He wanted out of Philly. Wouldn’t sign there. Wouldn’t even talk to them apparently.

Possibly. Or he’s trying to win a gold medal for the USA so he doesn’t care about discussing a contract then.

Regardless it’s a solid trade, but I am surprised that Anaheim had to add.

Drysdale's had some health issues so that's probably part of it.

Drysdale isn't a prospect.

they were drafted 2 years apart iirc. Kind of group them in the same area of prospects.

2 yrs older, off ELC iirc , and injury issues.

This is Drysdale's fourth pro season. Sure, they're not that far apart in age, but Drysdale isn't a prospect any longer. His 32 point sophomore season as a 19-year old was three years ago.

I didn't know you could trade prospects

Drysdale really isn't a prospect anymore. Yeah, he's 21. But he's 21 with 120+ games of NHL experience. So he's a young guy with still a pretty good upside.

Gauthier wasn't going to sign in Philly.

So this trade makes a world of sense for both teams -- Philly needed defense and Anaheim needed someone like Gauthier. Just so happened that Anaheim had/has a spare younger Dman and Philly had a guy that didn't want to sign.

So yes, it's still a thing that prospects-for-prospects trade rarely happen. And if they do, there's likely a reason behind it other than simply rounding out a prospect pool. This trade doesn't happen if Gauthier was going to sign in Philly.

If Drysdale can stay healthy its a nice trade for Philly.

They trade a prospect not on the roster and doesn't want to play for them for Drysdale that can jump in and provide immediate help. He is only 21. Love these types of trades and wish Buffalo would do something like this with their 4 top prospects.
.
Philly in a playoff position and this will help them.

Wouldn't mind Savoie or Rosen plus whatever for a young top 4 defender.

Geeze man..you guys really took a sarcastic post seriously. I never said Drysdale was a prospect..was referring to Gauthier. And was before I saw anything about him not wanting to be in Philly.
