They'll allocate some of Tavares' expiring deal to Marner. Move from the big 4 to a big 3 and try going D shoppingAre they going to pay Mitch at the end of next season? I get Nylander is more valuable right now for sure.
I didn't know you could trade prospects
Holy shit that’s a big trade. Gauthier is such a protypical Flyers and (now) a Duck prospect.
EDIT: also how the hell would you not know he would sign with you when drafting him? Especially that high in the 1st?
I was on the Gauthier hype train his entire draft year. It's a great trade for Anaheim as their pool is the opposite of Buffalo's with a ton of high tier defensive prospects
Possibly something after being drafted.
Possibly. Or he’s trying to win a gold medal for the USA so he doesn’t care about discussing a contract then.
Regardless it’s a solid trade, but I am surprised that Anaheim had to add.
Drysdale isn't a prospect.
2 yrs older, off ELC iirc , and injury issues.Possibly. Or he’s trying to win a gold medal for the USA so he doesn’t care about discussing a contract then.

they were drafted 2 years apart iirc. Kind of group them in the same area of prospects.

Drysdale's had some health issues so that's probably part of it.
Geeze man..you guys really took a sarcastic post seriously. I never said Drysdale was a prospect..was referring to Gauthier. And was before I saw anything about him not wanting to be in Philly.Drysdale really isn't a prospect anymore. Yeah, he's 21. But he's 21 with 120+ games of NHL experience. So he's a young guy with still a pretty good upside.
Gauthier wasn't going to sign in Philly.
So this trade makes a world of sense for both teams -- Philly needed defense and Anaheim needed someone like Gauthier. Just so happened that Anaheim had/has a spare younger Dman and Philly had a guy that didn't want to sign.
So yes, it's still a thing that prospects-for-prospects trade rarely happen. And if they do, there's likely a reason behind it other than simply rounding out a prospect pool. This trade doesn't happen if Gauthier was going to sign in Philly.
