The 41 games, they want to send a STRONG message, but it seems like Pinto's silence is part of the deal, meaning the league DOES NOT want to have this conversation. No one in hockey is going to bring up the Gretzky-Tochett thing, but this sounds like it may have been similar.

If this guy has a problem, hopefully they get him some help. But this is going to pop up every so often and the league will have to continue to come down hard on the offenders. Gambling can be an addiction and this could have happened to any team.

I can't see the NHLPA rolling over on a 41 game suspension if it wasn't betting on the NHL and it was merely a high volume of legal bets. And it doesn't seem like the placing bets from within a team facility like we have seen in the NFL. I doubt Pinto would be happy things have been kept quiet if it was just that.

I won't be shocked if we learn more as the NHL and NHLPA work to clarify to the players what is OK and what is not.

Who gives it the green light? Anyone with a funny bone in their body I'd guess. The east tell is the crowd howling and cheering. I'd love someone with a fraction of this creativity to be running the Sabres' in-game entertainment.
