Yeah...Saad is a good player, but I don't get this from the CBJ POV.

They just hardballed RyJo and they've got a boatload of up and coming youngsters.

Seems to me like they're just positioning themselves to have to do something quite similar to this very soon.

Expect them to move forward prospects for D ..

I like the move for them.

I'm just curious to see what saad signs for now. If he signs for less than what's initially reported a la Hamilton, this could look bad on the Hawks. That's what I'm talking about. But if he gets what he wants, I understand it

Goes to show you bridge deals can be good and bad.

Give CoHo a big contract instead of a bridge and before you really know what you have, next thing you know there's a buyout looming.

Give a bridge deal to someone like ROR, and you end up losing him. But, look at what the Avs got in return. They'll be eating the fruits of that trade for a long time now, so the worst case scenario is you are forced to move on, but you get a solid return.

I bet Sami Vatanen finds himself on a new team before August. He and Lindholm are RFAs next season and it's obvious who the better D man is. Vatanen isn't my cup of tea but he's going to get a decent raise because points. Plus Despres really emerged for Anaheim as well as their strong prospect system. Vatanen is a classic case of a guy you unload when his value is high.

Tarasenko is a righty..... not that we need another forward... but if u were confident you could fill the d hole in free agency... probably the sickest rebuild of a team in na sports history.

I was on the Tarasenko bandwagon but post-ROR there's no argument for it whatsoever anymore. You could add nothing but depth adjustment to our forwards for ten years and probably be safe. You badly need to add to the defense. Can't have these all-star wingers floating at the hashmarks all year with no one to outlet it to them.

I wonder how much the legal tampering period is affecting the RFA trade market. Guys like Hamilton and Saad know what they can get on the market and can take those terms to the team, giving the team a window to trade the player before free agency completely changes the market.

I agree. But to some degree you could create a stronger Chicago. Equal amounts of stud two way wingers and better centers by a lot. The defense, well we need Risto to turn into keith but we are not getting keith in a trade or free agency.

We still would have a lot of good prospects. And then have a roster purge in three years of vets and young guys you identify to not be core guys.

No way Kings win this.

NHL officials have been notified that the Royal Canadian Mounted Police investigation into ex-L.A. Kings player Mike Richards involves the prescription drug oxycodone ... multiple sources tell TMZ Sports.

Our sources say Richards was stopped while crossing from the United States into Canada on June 17th ... and we're told he was questioned about oxycodone pills, a powerful painkiller.

For the record, Richards has NOT been charged with a crime.

However, he has since been cut from the team for "a material breach of the requirements of his Standard Player's Contract."

We reached out to Richards' agent for comment multiple times but haven't heard back. Canadian officials refused to comment, citing privacy laws.

But a rep for the NHL Players Association tells us, "We are in the process of reviewing the facts and circumstances of this matter, and will discuss the situation with the player in order to determine the appropriate course of action."

Based on those vague details I can't imagine this sticking.

They didn't terminate Stoll, so I can't see how the LAK can justify they way the handled Richards.

They can justify it easily. If someone violates the terms of a contract they can choose to terminate it. There is nothing that says they must. However, their case seems very dubious here.

Stoll is a UFA. He's not really relevant to this situation. Yes, he is still technically under contract (until noon tomorrow), but he has no contractual commitment beyond that.

Maybe. But Stoll was actually charged, while Richards hasn't been. At least not yet.
