Sens are banking on the potential. In 2 years that team could be stacked, signed long term and signed cheap. In a cap world you gotta take some risks.
Or, in 4 years he’ll be washed on a PTO enjoying his buyout money like another Sen they payed based on potential.

The fact that he already lost a job and was exiled for years due to shit like this and then he comes back and IMMEDIATELY does it again...like how f***ing stupid do you have to be? I know people in hockey aren't known for their intelligence but jesus christ.
He’s a hockey coach, they dumb as domesticated turkeys.

They have new ownership that I think hasn't officially taken over yet. I wonder who allowed such an idiotic contract to be greenlit.

It's incredible that Babcock is such a huge asshole that despite getting a (undeserved) second chance from the league he STILL blew it again immediately by being the same as he ever was.

I wish I could say this would be a lesson to the league but this moronic old boys club never learns and Joel Quenneville will probably get another job at some point.

I'm actually not super surprised it was Columbus. John Davidson is an old school good old boy. I see his hands as all over this.
You know how occasionally you'll get a player who will say something positive about Torts, Bylsma, or even Therrien? You'll never EVER hear a player speak positively about Babcock. Even players who won the cup with him hate him.

Torts is more of a jerk to the media than his players. He's hard on his players and demands a lot and that rubs some guys the wrong way but he's also fiercely loyal to them. Babcock is just an asshole and always has been. Torts at least has some heart.

Disco was very much a player's coach (at least if you weren't a prospect lol).

Therrien was an old school disciplinarian but I don't think he was necessarily cruel. At least not most of the time. Babcock tries to be what Therrien was but there's a big element of cruelness and power dynamics there.

That's what I'm getting at. Babcock is pretty much just a bully, whose career was inflated by getting a team with some hall of famers in their prime. Without that Detroit roster, he's just a bully, and he's one with no charm or charisma to back it up.

You can probably bet that if some of the lockerroom had any even lukewarm support for Babcock, he'd never have gotten shit-canned, but dude sucks that much.

Considering he never was that spectacular outside of Detroit it does make those Wings rosters seem even better.

Those guys hated him and yet that team was still so star studded and filled with talent that they almost won back to back cups.

I'm glad we won in 09 but still surprised to this day that we did. Those Wings teams were terrors of puck possession.

Babcock's tenure on the Wings marks where I began to realize that rosters are what wins cups, not coaches.

Hockey coaches are so whatever. We both give them too much credit and too much blame.

Jackets fans are all worried that they have to have Vincent run the show now when it's actually a huge blessing in disguise. Or at worst a non-factor.
