I guess it's safe to say things didn't go down like the PR damage control statement that was like "It's fine, we just shared pics of us fishing all summer and our kids' birthday parties."

What a f***ing loser. Hopefully this is the last we have to hear of Babcock.

It's a W for the NHLPA.

Obviously not privy to the whole investigation but its seems like Columbus/Babcock got the senior team leadership (Jenner-Babcock statement, Gaudreau on Friedman) to try and do damage control. Or they genuinely just offered up their thoughts and weren't upset with what happened, perhaps because they've been around the track a couple of times. Gaudreau played for Bill Peters for Christ's sake, who knows what he's seen. NHL was like "Yeah, sounds good to me. Case closed. Here, look at some Connor Bedard highlights!"

Good on Marty Walsh and Ron f***ing Hainsey for not just dropping it and continuing to investigate with the rank and file of that team. As everyone pointed out online, the majority of the CBJ are super young and obviously don't have any kind of attachment to Babcock. Plus they talked to his former players in Toronto who I'm sure had lovely things to say about him .

I think Babcock will go down in Columbus’ record books as the coach who lost the fewest games in team history…

How many rosters have Lidstrom, Zetterbeg, Datsyuk, and Rafalski? The Wings were the exception - not the norm - during his time there.
For sure. That's just it. Like Bylsma was able to luck into a cup with two generational centers, I don't think in retrospect, Babcock's coaching acumen is nearly what it was made out to be. The Wings won those Cups, not Babcock. You can win a cup without a player who's generational at his position, but man, those Red Wings teams are not examples of it.

Well I'll be damned. He actually resigned. Good riddance.
Holy shit, what got turned in that investigation? I thought they were going to have to drag him out kicking and screaming.

I have to think there's some details that aren't public yet.
The only juicy nugget I've been able to glean is this from Friedman, "According to multiple sources, one of the most serious concerns was a meeting that occurred away from team facilities that included “several minutes” of looking through a phone. That was beyond the scope of what was initially understood to have occurred."

The "away from team facilities" part has me curious.

Dude was pounding on players' doors demanding to see their hog pics on their phone while they were trying to fix dinner or something.

Must be nice to keep dehumanizing us and never letting these f***s feel the full heat of their racism, it’s wild to me Peters is in charge of coaching youths as a known racist because he’s mates with the owner.

Old “white boys club” living good.

I wonder if Bettman is at all bothered by Pegula and his Sabres ownership at all, probably not. He’s rich and we all know how he deals with rich tossers acting afoul like the Wirtz, a tiny fine and free to keep doing your shit.

Likely met with some players at dinner or lunch individually like normal but with the purpose of that phone bs. I mean that's such a violation of someone's privacy. Babs is an idiot and Jay Rosehill also touched on how he treated people at the university he was exiled to, like trash with the entitlement that this was for show so he could get back to coaching.

Shitty people do that.

Mitch Miller did that with his fake racial sensitivity training.

Bill Peters did the same but had a mate in a high place to bring him in without issue.

At least two out of three sort of got punished.

Legendary tenure.

Whatever. It was a moronic idea to begin with. I don't really care how you slice it... the guy is a big bucket of douche and NHL coaches aren't worth that kind of hassle.

8M for not even one NHL game. Nice one, Jackets. You went from Torts to this guy. Brilliant.
Do they actually have to pay Babs since he resigned?

Yes, but they negotiated an exit price since he didn’t really start coaching…I think they’re paying him for two years of the contract he signed

I imagine that there must have been something negotiated but just to clarify the contract was only for two years to begin with. 8M total.

How many millions has Babcock been paid now to not coach?

It's good work if you can um... not get it?
