Flames lose
Blues lose
Kings lose

Vegas won but if they manage to jump us they kick out the kings from the division top 3. Sitting in a pretty good place. Need to slap the mild around today

Wings are in trouble and you just hate to see it. Have lost 5 in a row.
They have the ultimate get well stretch of schedule coming up, will be interesting to see if they can recover. Wish there was a way for them, Philly and Tampa to all miss but two of those three will make it most likely.

So what you're saying is the Tank doesn't work.

Tank fans would say the Wings didn't tank hard enough. Their highest pick during their playoff drought has been 4th OA. Personally I'll take the mushy middle over being bad but not bad enough to be good again

Id point out that they failed to draft an adaquate goaltender till 2021 Cossa but he is years away from being a starter and theyve failed to have adequate NHL goaltending/defense. Much like Edmonton. You gotta get all the positions. Not just offense.

Truth is they probably got a bit screwed by the lottery on that somewhat. Kind of saw the same thing with LA.

I may want to see us drop some age and give the kids a chance, but selling everything off and just sucking is not something I ever want to see. To me tanking is one of those things that worked at one time, but today I'm not sold it really does work anymore. Edmonton, Toronto, current LA, Ottawa, Buffalo x2, Detroit, none of them have really done anything since doing so. Yeah Chicago managed to get Bednar, but they have jack squat around him and its looking like it may be a a while before they do so.

Recent teams that have gone scorched earth include Ottawa and Buffalo, who both got a little bit of run at a playoff spot last year, and this year snapped back to form. Detroit has been bad for quite a while and have shuffled the deck chairs all the way up to the captain in the bridge. Arizona is another case of permanent rebuilding by changing the blueprints on a regular basis and hoping the house assembles itself. Chicago has been tanking for a while, but they got their marketing dream come true. Scoreboard. Anaheim went tanking roughly the same time. San Jose is burning it to the ground.

It will be interesting to see if we can become a serious contender again quicker than Chicago, Arizona, Anaheim, and San Jose. Our approach has clearly been different than theirs. Winnipeg took a one step back to try to take 2 steps forward as well, and it seems to be working well up there.

The Islanders making the playoffs will likely spark some discussion about the loser point. They currently have 14 OTL points

Gonna suck if that OT stunt speaks a run for the Wild. They have the Ducks twice and the Blues twice in their next 5 games. Will Calgary seemingly done, they could easily bury the Blues and become our only serious challenger

By the media, such as LeBrun who has long advocated for a different point system, perhaps.

Based upon the traction he's gotten in the past, I doubt the appetite for that kind of change exists within the league. The OTL points accrued by the Islanders this year is not unusual:

2022-23:
- Calgary w/ 17 OTL
- San Jose w/ 16 OTL
- 11 others w/ 10+ OTL

2021-2022:
- 14 with 10+ OTL (high of 14)

I've always felt it should just use wins/losses.

When Atlanta gets a team, I'm kinda rooting for the nickname to be the 'Phoenix' Flames + Thrashers = Firebirds. Also, 'Phoenix' screams, 'We're back bitches!'

The only thing I don't like about that is that 3 v 3 overtime or the shoot out isn't representative of a real hockey game. I think you either do the 3-2-1 points system or just go back to having games end in ties with 1 point each.

My personal opinion is losses of any kind should be 0 points. A team should not get a participation award if they lose.

As far as wins in regulation vs OT vs SO go, you can still use the same tiebreaker you use now to create importance around regulation wins.

If they're going to make losses worth 0 then something would need to be done about the format IMO. It wouldn't make sense to me to go to 3x3 followed by shootout (both very different than normal hockey) only to make it all or nothing.

Personally I would be fine with just having ties again.

Agreed. I’d hate to put an even more outsized influence on what are essentially skills competitions. I’ve never really been bothered by ties in the regular season anyways.

The system soccer uses where you get 3 points for a win and 1 for a tie would be intriguing too. Would definitely make the end of tied games more compelling.
