So Rangers hammer Ottawa at home, shutting them out. Philly beats Detroit in OT, and Montreal beats Tampa 3-2, with a two assist night from Laine.

Eastern playoff race now has 7-12 seeds in the Conference separated by 2 points, and Tampa, 3rd in the Atlantic, one point up on Ottawa, Montreal and Boston, with a game or 2 in hand.

Buckle up.

So much better than last year when they had 7 playoff teams then the worst hot potato, I don’t want it you take it, death spiral for who got stuck with the last playoff spot.

Georgiev has been the ultimate tank acquisition for the Sharks. Play well, but can't get a save.
How the Avs managed to beat us so soundly in that series is shocking considering this guy was between the pipes and Helle was in our net.

Shows how bad they played from the net out.

PS I'm loving this arc for the Habs. Play just well enough to miss the playoffs by a point or two. I hope they end up drafting 17th.

There are two clear teams emerging above the crowd in the NHL, the Jets and the Capitals. +50 and +51 respectively. It's not like the Jets are blowing out the competition on the reg, either. That differential is hard earned.

Of course having Hellebuyck in net is a big part of it, but Helle has played fantastic before and we've not had the record nor the positive diff we have today.

I keep waiting for the wheels to fall off in Washington. With the Jets, it's not bizarre to expect it - we had a strong record last year as well and didn't change our lineup in a big way. The Caps (as Gmoney I think mentioned) have a bunch of players having career years and unsustainable sh% - you have to figure that's going to fizzle at some point?

What a shock 4-0 PPs for Oilers vs Canucks and when the Oilers got a penalty they even it up.
I'm confused ... Garland gets crosscheck in the head and the Oilers go after him and the Canuck star players (Hughes).
Perry should be suspended for this right?

While I'm happy to see the back of Rantanen from the Central Division, I fear what the bigger implications of this trade might be. A lot of chatter, be it unsubstantiated, about room being made for a man who wears number 87. If so, I'll be sick to my stomach.
That's a surprising but understandable trade for the Avs they were going to have a big problem trying to re sign him
From what I've read this evening on the Av's board, that's a huge part of it.
