How tf did we get Helle to play in Winnipeg for a cheaper price than Igor is playing in Manhattan?
There seemed to be an agreement that there was a $8.5M upper bound for goalies, after Bob and Price hamstrung their teams. Only Vasilevsky went above that, as a cup winner, and even he barely cracked the $8.5M ceiling.

Then last season, Bob won the cup on his contract, and Ullmark and Swayman signed for $8M+ each. Much tougher to make an argument for why a top goalie shouldn't make $10M+ after that happened.

Helle and Saros were signed just before that. They would probably both be $11M+ goalies this upcoming offseason.

Wow.. Trouba really just doesnt care if he wins a Stanley Cup or not.

How could you dedicate your whole life to Hockey and not care to go to a team with a chance at winning?

He's really just gonna throw on some sunshades and sandals and ride off into the Sunset.
It’s likely only for a year at most. Next season he will be a pending UFA and will go somewhere at the TDL. After that he’ll be free to sign cheap to whoever wants him.

Hold up, zero salary retained on the Trouba deal? Ducks taking on his entire salary with zero in the way of draft capital to show for it?

If so, that’s a phenomenal deal for Drury and the Rangers. No clue what the Ducks are doing.
Teams like the Rangers or Vegas can make crazy deals because teams consistently do them a solid and let them off the hook

Heck, we did it with Stastny and Schmidt.

I think the plan is to eventually flip Trouba for draft capital. He isn’t without value if you don’t have to take on his $8 M cap hit.

Yeah, how the hell did that happen? In what way did the Ducks think Trouba might be worth picking up? And THEY gave up a 4th rounder?

It's an actual hockey trade, for a player who screams out cap dump.

I think the funniest thing about the Trouba trade was that he really wanted to be in NYC and they dealt him to a team completely across the continent lol

Not only did they want to get rid of him, but they wanted him far, far away

Funny how Trouba is crying about how badly things were handled and how things went public. You used the exact same bloody playbook on us. Cry me a f***ing river, turn around is fair play.

None of the Trouba saga surprises me. When he left here it was clearly all about him and his personal needs, and nothing appears to have changed.

Morrissey, Helle and even the much-maligned Scheifele will set numerous records as Jets and be a permanent part of hockey history in this part of the world. They will also have the special kind of bond with teammates that grows over years of fighting the same battles. Who knows, one of them might even get a statue!

Trouba will miss something very special in his NHL career that money can't buy.

Seems like a bad strategy. If he continues to decline, gets hurt, etc. then the Ducks are in the same position as the Rangers were yesterday.

Verbeek is either making a galaxy brain play or doesn’t have a clue what he’s doing. Maybe he’s planning a total roster purge and wants Trouba’s salary to keep them at the floor?

It’s a bit tough for me to figure out what the Ducks are up to. Trouba only has one season left after this one so the exposure it contained for the most part.

It’s also a stretch to think that the teams in preferred markets will sacrifice their competitive advantage and agree to leveling the playing field.
Those clauses are a double edged sword for those markets

Yeah, you aren't on anyones NTC or NMC so you can potentially get better players in trades... but once you give a guy a contract with those in there and he likes it in your desirable market... he ain't gonna waive and you're stuck with that contract

That's why LA moved PLD for what they did before his kicked in on July 1
