I didn't expect them to be this bad but knew it wouldn't work out. I thought they'd still be an easy round 1 out, as usual.

You alway respect goal scoring ability but I've never been a big fan of Stamkos. I kind of enjoy that they did the right thing under all that heat and swapped him for Guentzel, who I think will be viewed as just as good by the time his career is done.

I mean they basically won a Cup without Stamkos already and if you want to go way back nearly got to a final without him (though a bit unfair to go back that far as he was still a play driving player then and they had gone to the Final previous year with him).

Stats have been suggesting Stammer was pretty cooked last year and declining the year before that, point totals be damned.

I’m not saying Kucherov could turn me into an NHL player, but he could probably get me going in the NCAA

They waived Engvall before the season, Wahlstrom has seemingly been a tweener (we'll see if this ends up being Alexander Holtz in a couple years).

I don't think anyone takes Wahlstrom. I doubt he was ever going to be any good anyway, he's probably too slow, but boy the Islanders do just let guys rot until they're worthless.

I remember watching the Wahlstrom clip and segment when it was new, back when he was like 9 years old. I figured he was so good that he'd really have to suffer some kind of a physical injury or just completely lose interest and passion to not do hockey as a profession. But I forgot all about him after that.

It wasn't until he was drafted and that video resurfaced that I remembered seeing all of that back in 2009.




He has a pretty good shot, but not much else. It seemed like for a while that maybe Trotz just didn't like him, but he's been even worse under Lambert and Roy. Seems like a dude that might just spend the remainder of his career in Europe after another year or two of staying here in the AHL and trying to get back in the NHL.

Sounds like Justin Schultz is retiring after a brief stint in the Swiss league. Doesn't seem that long ago that I thought about flying to Oklahoma City to catch the Oilers prospects (Schultz, Hall, Eberle, Nugent-Hopkins) during the 2012 lockout.

Craziest part about his career to me will always be 16-17 when Letang went down and he just played at 1D level until they won the cup. Unsung hero of that Cup run

Next year he went back to a solid 2nd pair level guy and never reached that 1D level again from what I remember.

Trouba seems like he’s old, but he’s actually two years younger than Fowler, who has been with the NHL Ducks for almost 15 years right out of the draft.

For whom? Anaheim was always going to move on from Fowler once they acquired Trouba, I think they took a lower return in order to just move him now. St. Louis has been giving Ryan Suter 22 minutes a game which seems pretty unsustainable given that he's 40 years old, so this should put him back on the 3rd pair which is where he was signed to play.

I guess they think Trouba will be highly motivated to prove the Rags fan wrong and will be committed to the area since Irvine has a lot of good medical facilities for his wife?

I don't know what's going on with Fowler but he might just be done with losing and maybe he's just not gonna be defensively stable enough for Anaheim to turn the corner.

This. Also Fowler was a UFA with 4 team trade list so he could veto almost any trade.

Ducks had too many (puckmoving) LHD and had been sitting a guy like Pavel Mintyukov recently. Trouba isn't worth his 8 mil cap hit, but their top RHD was Radko Gudas. Probably not too many useful RHD on the trade market for Anaheim to get right now.

At least in theory they've balanced out their D.

My god the rangers highlights are insane from yesterday. That poor plug Mackey fighting someone in the first and trying to get the crowd amped like a discount Rempe (which is hilarious to say because Rempe is already like a dollar store goon, so I guess Mackey is food stamp Rempe? IDK) was one of the most painfully awkward things I’ve seen in recent memory.

And then just the lack of effort…a beautiful thing to see. They looked like they could not care less. Igor getting shit on by a team who’s style of play is more akin to the 1920 Chattanooga Crawdads (not a real team but you get the point I’m trying to make).

The post game pressers with Mika and Brochek were top comedy. They looked like someone just told them James Dolan shot their best friend and hung them from the Jumbotron above center ice. Love it.
