I didn't expect them to be this bad but knew it wouldn't work out. I thought they'd still be an easy round 1 out, as usual.

You alway respect goal scoring ability but I've never been a big fan of Stamkos. I kind of enjoy that they did the right thing under all that heat and swapped him for Guentzel, who I think will be viewed as just as good by the time his career is done.

there is always a team willing to roll the dice that an aging top player can hold on at a top level a few more years. I’m sure each player is different but my guess is that if you looked closely at Stamkos you would have seen the erosion in his game
I mean they basically won a Cup without Stamkos already and if you want to go way back nearly got to a final without him (though a bit unfair to go back that far as he was still a play driving player then and they had gone to the Final previous year with him).

Stats have been suggesting Stammer was pretty cooked last year and declining the year before that, point totals be damned.

I’m not saying Kucherov could turn me into an NHL player, but he could probably get me going in the NCAA
