Both Swayman and Binnington are headcases.

Give me a cheap Hofer and Zherenko/Ellis tandem any day. In my opinion, Hofer's earned a starting spot.
This is crazy. Hofer might be ready but who knows if he could handle a starter's workload. Zherenko and Ellis definitely are not.

Thankfully we have a veteran, Stanley Cup winning goaltender who had a phenomenal season last year so we don't have to find out.

i still find it nuts this is all over a (very good) tandem goalie who's never put in a full starter's work load

is he even gonna keep the cage enough to be the starter this season and ever be worth all of this drama?

Crazy to see so many Blues fans dislike the goalie who brought us the Cup but here we are. Despite his "antics" on the ice, he seems like a pretty levelheaded, humble guy off the ice and I've heard many praise him as a teammate. I'd much rather have Binner at $6 million than Swayman at $8 million or more. He's a proud Blue and will likely retire holding quite a few franchise goalie records.

Except for those racist tweets from when he was younger as well. Maybe he was young and dumb, but they were not a good look either. That on top of his on-ice antics, he's an easy guy to dislike.

And this is rich coming from the guy who routinely trashes the captain that brought us a cup.

Agreed. Sorry but running a Hofer + Zherenko/Ellis tandem is frankly a ridiculous idea IMO. Great way to potentially damage the development of all 3 goalies in the system.

You're just perpetually cranky, aren't you? Not sure I'd say I "trash" Petro, although I'm definitely a bigger fan of the guy who's proud to wear the Blue Note and stuck around rather than the greedy turncoat who bolted for a little bit more money. I'm a Blues fan, why would I support that guy anymore? Good player though and I appreciate what he did while here.

I don’t like his antics at all, but if he plays like he did last year I’ll be glad he’s on the team. If he turns back into a pumpkin then he’s just a douchebag who provides mediocre goaltending for a big salary. Not much to like there.

There's plenty to like if you focus on the overall body of work and how he carries himself the majority of the time. If you wanna focus on a handful of incidents and some not-even-that-offensive tweets from a decade ago then yeah I guess. Binner is not a "douchebag," grow up.

I like the fact that he played a huge role in our first ever Stanley Cup, and seems proud and grateful to wear the Blue Note. There were actually people who wanted to keep Husso over him, unbelievably. Glad we didn't.

I don't even know what tweets you're talking about, just the childish on-ice temper tantrums he throws regularly when he's playing like shit. That didn't happen much last year because he played really well. I'd love for that to continue. If it doesn't, you can be sure those same childish, embarrassing stunts will come back and he'll just be a mediocre goalie making a ton of money and embarrassing himself and the team regularly. Plenty of guys in the league can give you mediocre goaltending without all the extra bullshit.

I guess 5-10 times over the last 4-5 years qualifies as "reguarly?" I bet most goalies lose their temper from time to time, but it doesn't make them a "douchebag" as you said. Regardless, your anti-Binner bias is well-known and clearly ain't gonna change at this point. Hope he can prove you wrong again this year.

"Get rid of Binnington because he's a headcase" is an example of the goalie being superior to the fans he plays for. The only Cup ever, in a few weeks the top goalie in franchise history, but the hater's differentiation is this is the guy who they deem unreliable mentally. It's so unbelievably pitiful a job at appreciating what the goals are that it deserves to root for sports the remainder of a life and never win
