And I'm just sitting here laughing imagining Kevin Hayes twirling a comically long moustache as he drops a note reading "This Gaut's kind really stinks, eh? - DB" into Gauthier's locker.
To echo your point, he doesn't even have to listen to their pitch if his mind is made up. All he has to do is say I appreciate your interest but I'd like to be moved and then it's done. Instead, he ignored them for months and didn't participate in the development camp with zero word as to why. Seems like he made his mind up then and still didn't give the Flyers any inkling as to what his intentions were. Child behavior, but he's 19 so I give him a pass this time.
Why didn't you read the part about if you know you're never going to work for someone, why waste your time talking to them? That's what makes it completely not different. For some reason you seem fixated on a need to have apples-to-apples situations before you consider that. The situation isn't the point at all: it's that you seem to think Gauthier and every other draft pick owes whoever drafted them whatever time the team wants, even if the player couldn't give two shits about ever playing for the team, and I'm asking why he has to do that if it's never changing one goddamn thing about his decision. Why did you waste so much of your post talking about how you get bombarded with recruiter's if you knew it was completely different?
The perfect 1-to-1 flip if we're going to be incredibly pedantic about this, is that the two sides talked contract, mostly if not completely had a deal agreed to, the player then said "you know what, I want to wait until [date] for [reason] before I sign" and the team got pissed off, pulled the offer completely, and then every time the player [player's agent] tried to reach out to the team, the team ignored him completely - to the point that when the player and his agent showed up at the team's offices, the team called the police and had both escorted away for trespassing.Your example to flip the script is not 1 to 1 with this situation. Imagine if a team drafted a player, had his rights. Then they just ignored that player. They never told him things he needed to work on to earn a contract. They didn't invite him to prospect camps. They didn't return his calls. They just held his rights and ignored him. That would make everyone think less of that front office when that got out. I didn't say Gauthier needed to sign with them (the opposite of offer a contract), but he should have talked with them.

But, if Gauthier owes the Flyers the time for them to talk to him, and every other draft pick owes whoever's holding their rights the time for the team to talk to him even if the draft pick says "we're never, ever, ever ... signing a contract together" then logically, that means for any players whose rights are held by a team where the player isn't UFA, that player owes the team the chance to talk contracts and make offers for the player to at least consider, because of "professional courtesy" and because it's "SOP" - even if the player who's not UFA couldn't give even the first shit about playing for the team again.
Which, then, means you should be equally upset at a guy Matthew Tkachuk for bailing out on Calgary like he did, when he was still a year away from UFA and Calgary wanted to keep him around. Or, any other not-yet-UFA, past present or future, who does the same thing. Or even any player currently under contract, where the team wants to talk extension and the player is nah, I'm good, I've had enough of you losers, I'm headed to market this summer.
If he issues a statement that contradicts the Flyers, then I'll retract my statement. Until then, this is all we got *shrug*I mean to be fair we only have one side's point of view and that's the Flyers and after the leaking of the trade with the Blues this past summer I don't really think they're in the moral high ground.
If I may, just checking out some thoughts around the boards here. That stuff comes from inside the house. Someone within the Flyers was telling him that, or making it up. Don’t think it’s the reporter himself pulling it out of the air. Of course that doesn’t make it true, I trust that it isn’t. The Flyers only know how to be pathological liars while deflecting responsibility and they love a good smear campaign.Philly fans are the absolute worst. Hayes is getting death threats from fans becaue or some jackass who accused Hayes of being the cause of Gauthier refusing to sign. With not a shred of evidence.
It’s absolutely ridiculous, but also look at the shit that was posted about Kadri by Blues fans when he intentionally injured Binnington. Did he deserve some scrutiny, absolutely, but some of the stuff sent to him was way across the line. It’s just a social media thing.Philly fans are the absolute worst. And that shit still gets spewed today by some Blues fans, and it will get spewed for years to come. Just like when I mention Nick Kypreos, people remember one thing and get visceral with feelings accordingly. It’s absolutely ridiculous, but also look at the shit that was posted about Kadri by Blues fans when he intentionally injured Binnington. That certainly wouldn’t shock me. No matter what the team is gonna take some heat. But it wouldn’t surprise me to see them try to take some of it off of them.If I may, just checking out some thoughts around the boards here. That stuff comes from inside the house. Torts ripped the platform last night, but the chairman of the franchise was sitting next to those guys ripping Cutter 10 minutes after it was said. Since it is like the official podcast partner of the team or something. That had Chris Therien calling Hayes a loser too. Hayes was our all star last year, really more because of his personality and influence (which is not to say he was bad). The Flyers will love you until they need a scapegoat. That certainly wouldn’t shock me. No matter what the team is gonna take some heat. Regardless, death threats directed at a player are absolutely disgusting.
this entire all star format is a joke.Georgiev getting the All-Star nod over Binnington is a joke.

Eh, when you leave it to fan votes the guy who's team has a bigger fanbase usually wins. Or you get a John Scott all star game appearance.Georgiev getting the All-Star nod over Binnington is a joke.
It's tough to say "this is when the ASG became a joke" but I'd say about the time Garth Butcher played in it as an injury replacement for Jeff Brown was a good start. It definitely started down that road in 1989 when it was a 9-5 game, and as scores took off from there it became more of a joke.this entire all star format is a joke.
You don't know who I would've voted for. Georgiev definitely doesn't deserve the nod and between the two Binnington deserves it more than Georgiev. Goalies with a sub .900 sv pct. don't deserve to play in the ASG.And neither deserved it over several other goalies that weren't voted in. You would have voted for Binnington but there are 11 goalies with a better save percentage and 17 with a better GAA (22+ games). Do you blame Colorado fans for voting for their guy even though there are better options when you would do the same?
