Which young star will win a Stanley Cup first: Auston Matthews, Connor McDavid, Jack Eichel, Patrik Laine or Nico Hischier?

Which young star will win a Stanley Cup first?

I would say Matthews. The Leafs aren't that far away. Babcock is an excellent coach. They need to add on D and not sure about their goalie. You don't need a generational goalie like Lundqvist or Price to win the Cup.

Edmonton has been a huge disappointment. Their team speed is an issue. They have no wingers. Their D is meh. Talbot is OK.

Buffalo is a disaster.

Winnipeg? They are the Jets. They have never won anything. They have drafted some really good young players. A ton of upside with that team.

The Devils are better under Shero.

I don't think the Leafs are "aren't that far away"

That D is more difficult to fix then you'd think. It's that bad.

So.. now that we see some speculations regarding Karlsson. How can we, and do we want to make room for him if he becomes available?

Haha Ottawa is getting ****in murdered.

wait do they actually give up an unprotected first in that trade for Duchene (as well as a third, Bowers and Turris)? Oh my goodness. Gorton gets the GM of the year just from not making that trade with Colorado

It's top-10 protected or something.

Guy Boucher teams always have one really good year than they fall off.
I think the style of play he mandates, in this era, is not easy, and not good for long. I don't just mean getting it done on the ice, executing it consistently, but I don't think hockey players really embrace it in their hearts and minds. It is awful to watch. I bet it is awful to play it too.
Go back to older times, it was more of an accepted and viable strategy. It's harder than the old "five in the picture" shot blocking mantra that Renney employed followed by near religious devotion by Tortorella.
I don't have a high regard for the Senators ownership and management, although I thought the world of Bryan Murray who was class act.

Blake Wheeler has been for years now one of my top ten fave NHL players. Consummate professional and makes an impact pretty well every single game.

Maybe they add Doughty in free agency in 2019. They have enough pieces to add a D. They are the favorites to land a D from the KHL. They had good success with Zaitsev.

Yes I feel like his trapping strategy is something teams fall for his first year because they were caught a bit off guard. Than the next year teams and players are more used to playing against it and know how to deal with it. I mean look at video a few years back when Philly played Tampa and just kept passing the puck back and forth in their own zone.

That was one of the craziest things; it was an on-ice protest. People could hardly believe what they were seeing.
Like you say, I don't think it's a good strategy these days. Another thing about it is they are not good enough to do it lights-out game-to-game. I bet Karlsson would like to shove the whole trap thing you know where (not saying EK should have inordinate influence on coaching decisions, but let's be real he is their pride and joy and rightfully so), but at the same time the Senators are not a great team offensively. They are a middling team.

Wouldn't count the Pens out just yet.

When he was drafted I remember thinking he was another Hugh Jessiman or something. He was a project that was taken much higher than projected.
