There is no way expansion teams like Vegas should have as good a record as they have a quarter of the way thru the season while robbing established teams of some pretty good assets. Expansion teams and their fans should have to suffer for at least a few years before they can even think about the playoffs. It should be a rite of passage like the '62 mets and every other god awful expansion team.

Going to very interesting to see what they do with Neal, Perron and JAM come the TDL if they are still firmly in the playoff race. Future assets vs 1st year playoff hype and revenue...

God forbid the NHL has parity, unlike that joke of a league that is the NBA.

I think it's pretty impressive. Shows how good this league is. They will slow down anyway, no doubt.

One of their million first round picks other than Tavares had to pan out sooner or later.

Considering how abysmal that trade turned out to be, they almost had to make a home run pick lest they wanted to be the hockey equivalent of the Cleveland Brown's Trent Richardson trade.

Step with a nice helper on Perlini's goal in Tor.

The NHL already has so much damn parity. Are you kidding? Every year playoff positions aren't decided until the last few days or even last day of the season. This year 5 points separate 1st from last in the metro. This league is certainly not short on parity. Expansion teams aren't supposed to make the playoffs in their first year. They were gifted some pretty good players and think it was a little excessive and ridiculous. Whatever happened to earning it? This would be the first time in major sports that an expansion team would make the playoffs in their 1st year of existence. Just stupid.

Earning it? So the players on Vegas that are out there busting their butts every night didn't earn it?

I think there's a middle ground here. You said the players they got were a little excessive - I won't disagree with you there. That doesn't mean you can't be impressed with how deep the league is, or how Vegas has performed. I'm enjoying it. Again though, let's see where they stand in February, because I don't think their lineup is anything special.

As a greedy fan I like my teams games against shit competition because there's a better chance to win (well, not if you're an NYR fan lol). As a hockey fan that watched any neutral game, I want it to be close - always.

The last 25 years, people have been complaining about expansion teams needing too much time to build. Now we finally have an expansion team coming out of the gates firing on all cylinders and it's still not good enough.

Say what you want, they are a team made up of mostly bottom-6 forwards and 3rd pair D-men, yet they are winning games. That's amazing. They didn't even picked the best players they could have, making deals with teams. Despite that, they are winning games. I absolutely love it.

Couldn't agree more.

Want to complain about not deserving? The f***ing NJ Devils have won the draft lottery twice in the past 6 years. THAT is not deserving, not a bunch of professional athletes going out there an exceeding expectations.

They have some good players like MAF, Neal, Perron, Lindberg, Marchessault, Eakin, etc. Those are some decent players that teams did not want to give up. I just think it was excessive by the NHL. They are not only in a playoff spot but they are 1 point out of 1st with 2 games in hand. I'm not sure if they are going to regress that much and it just bothers me that an expansion team could make the playoffs in first year. When was the last time that happened? The answer is never. I think it is ridiculous. Just my opinion. Maybe next time there is an expansion team the NHL could ask for each team to give up a top 6 forward and top four Dman so they could just win the cup in year 1.

I know you meant the talent in the league but even though the sport of hockey is the best, the NHL is a terrible league run by a very unlikable Buttman.
