Those guys aren't garbage though... Stepan is a solid 2C, Hammer is a solid 2nd pair guy, Demers is borderline 1st pairing material...

I want to say it's goaltending--they should have paid a prettier penny on a backup goaltender in the event the Raanta got hurt. Raanta got hurt and they ran with a below average backup and a **** ass starter... I would imagine that if they had someone that was like Nilsson or Bernier as a backup

Rangers had instant regret on the Step contract.

Hjalmersson had 2 more years on a good contract so why did chicago trade him? He just turned 30 and was brutal this year before he got hurt.

If Demers was ever that good he wouldn't have be trade by San Jose, Let go by Dallas, and Traded by Florida after 1 year.

They bought low on Hammer, but he's still a solid defensive player. He's hurt now, which I didn't know... But hammer is a good shutdown guy.

Demers was let go by Dallas because they have had Klingberg and Johns on that team for awhile. Their d depth is good, they didn't want to pay him $5M. Even then, he put up 22 in 61 for Dallas. The Panthers team he played on last year was BAD, constantly hit by injuries to their best players, and yet he still put up 28 in 81. His -14 is bad, but Between Luongo shitting the bed and Ekblad turning into a traffic cone, some of that is to be expected. He's a 2nd tier Offensive defenseman, he's not a bad player by any means. Florida traded him because they needed to cut $10M in salary, not because of his play.

Stepan is a 2C... he's no worse, no better. He's basically what Brassard was when he first got here minus the hands. He's still a defensive presence, and that team has hardly any of that

Some odds and sods observations from having the NHL Center Ice Package and one of the best inventions of all time and watching a ton of hockey tonight...here we go:

Friggen Colorado is no joke anymore. Nathan McKinnon is breaking out before our eyes fellas. A 5 point night vs Caps...20 points on the season in 17 games. By accident he even if he goes thru a slump, he should be an 80 point guy. He might approach 90.

The Wild with a sick comeback tonight down 3-0 in a blink of an eye. Than led by Eric Staal with another 3 points, they end up winning 6-4 of the Preds. Astonishing to me how piss poor he was with us and how great he is with Minny.

Even tho they lost tonight 1-0 to the Leafs and as much as I hate to say this, the Debbies are pretty damn good and I doubt they go away. No fluke going on in Joysey.

The Canadians blow chunks and will miss the playoffs this year. I'd bet my mortgage on that. The Caps are starting to show the effect of losing all those defenseman in the off season. Would not surprise me in the least if they also miss the playoffs.

The Lightning are likley going to be the Eastern Conference representatives in the Cup finals. Stamkos and Kucherov are both on pace for 140 points. Obviously they'll cool off but 100 each is pretty much guaranteed minus any injuries to either of them. That team is lethal.

Unless something zany occurs, their opponent will be either the Blues or the Kings. Pietrangelo is my choice for the Norris....guy has been unbelievable this season from the get go. Kopitar's demise and horrific year last season was just a hiccup and a fluke. The guy is simply dominant again and still one of the best players in the league.

That's enough for now....lol

The Flyers never fail to assemble a dirty bunch of ****ers

Sometimes it feels like they are more obsessed with finding "gritty" players than they are with finding "winning" players.

Even Montreal at some point learned that they had to venture outside of Quebec when assembling their roster.

It's unbelievable what those two have been able to do. It's 20 games into the season, you would think they would start cooling off, but not showing signs of it. lol.

My only stake in them is because of Cally and Girardi over there, who have played very well , little to show for it though. But I've kinda put them on the back burner and really focused on NY to be honest, but can't lie and say they are not fun to watch. lol.

No Stralman?

Been tuning into the Isles a bit. Have to say...This team is going to get better and better. Well balanced in their top 6 with the emergence of Barzal, and addition of Eberle. The bottom of the forward group has some moxy to it as well. The D is also shaping up. I think the Isles are looking at a contending team this year.

not if their goaltending doesn't improve.

Greiss and Halak have been awful

Barzal has been killing it. He's going to be a 70 point player in this league IMO. Isn't he one of the guys the Rangers could have drafted but passed on for some inferior prospect?

Meh the Islanders aren't that good. Their goaltending and defence are mediocre (besides Leddy). Offence is good but it's still early in the season and guys like Barzal may cool down. They're more of a bubble team.

Islanders usually play us hard, but also worried about the Devils, who have a good team this year.

Devils have a very fast, young, and skilled team. The divison is tougher than ever, would not be suprised if the Rangers finish last.
