Yeah I don't hate what Nashville did at all. Kept their roster intact that they still have that 1st to dangle should they need to add another piece in a few months.

Ottawa on the other hand went HAM for no reason. Duchene is not that good.
Wondering if it's to give Karlsson good reason to stay in Ottawa when they resign him.

I'm not sure Ottawa can even afford both players.

turris at 6 for 6 was too much for them, how are they going to deal with Duchene when he demands more.

I dont get why OTT is going for it.. They weren't that good last year and im not sure Duchene is that much of an improvement on Turris

Ottawa is going for it right now while karlsson's extension is not yet active. They'll be in cap hell after that.

Sales tax is imperative here. Ottawa might be willing to pay a little more for Duchene over turris. The skill gap is quite large between the two considering they need a #1C whereas Nashville already has one in Johansson

Again, the the rumors of Turris’ ask in Ottawa was higher. Plus, there’s no state income tax in Tennessee, just like Florida. Provincial taxes in Ontario are over 10% for incomes at that level, I’m pretty sure, so Turris is likely taking home the same amount as if Ottawa had actually given him $7.

Duchene’s contract is up the same year as Brassard’s. They kept White. I don’t think it’ll be a problem in 2 years.

I don't know fellas, someone needs to help me here. I get the Colorodo part of the deal and why they wanted to do the deal. They definitly got a nice haul and like a few of you have already said, thank the good lawd that GMJG resisted the temptation of acquiring Duchene and giving Sakic what he wanted.

It's the difference between Turris and Duchene that I don't get. They seem like pretty much the same players. For instance in my two big 12 team $ fantasy leagues I am in, in a snake draft, Duchene went as 11th pick of 5th round whereas Turris when 2nd pick of 6th round. In the other league which is an auction with each owner with $250 to spend, Duchene went for $7 and Turris went for $8.

From the eyeball test, they both are pretty similar talent wise. Duchene, uber skilled obviously is a bit more flashy with quicker bursts of speed but soft as butter than Turris. Turris, very skilled as well, is pretty damn fast as well tho not as flashy but is more consistant and has a bit more elbow grease to his game. There's really not alot of difference with the two of them and so I don't see how either Ottawa or Nashville got better....I just don't. I think it's pretty much a wash.

Only one winner here well actually two....Colorodo obviously and us thanks to Gorton sticking to his guns and not succumbing to Sakic's demands.....lol

Ottawa did the deal because of the contract situation I guess. You have to assume that the Ottawa FO sees Duchene as a significant upgrade over Turris, because they gave up a fair bit to get him.
Colorado got a good bunch for a player that wanted out, so good for them.

I have to say that Sakic received a pretty significant haul there. That said Sakic has to actually draft well to receive maximum value for this trade. How many people want to bet on that?

How does Nashville not get better. They added an excellent 2C without giving up a roster player.

Edmonton is a team with a great player and a really good player in Leon. They don't have much else. A few quality D. All of those former #1 picks have amounted to much.

Edmonton is the poster for tanking, even landing a generational talent, and yet, a large swath of this board tediously pines for this approach. I will take the Rangers success, sans a cup, over that of a perennial loser in Edmonton.

Yeah, gotta agree with Bozle here. Nashville is ridiculously loaded with defensive talent in their prospect pool. Girard is a good prospect, but they'll just keep drafting gems and turning them into two-way monsters like they have for the past decade. They're losing Kamenev, but I don't think he's gonna come anywhere close to being the type of player that Turris is right now for the next six years. Ottawa is the one that loses this deal unless they convince Duchene to stay

Is Duchene even better than Turris at this point? Maybe a change of scenery will jumpstart his career but his point totals have been dropping the last few years

Why are they the poster for "tanking" and not Pittsburgh, Tampa, LA, or Chicago? Oh, right. The narrative.

Your right...my bad. Nashville definitely got better.

Was pretty much thinking about the Duchene for Turris part and wasn't looking at fact Nashville basically can't lose in this deal

Your right. As I said to Nickmos, was thinking narrow mindidly and thinking just about Duchene vs Turris. But yeah Nashville can't lose in this deal for most part.
