Oh (and this is kind of random), a guy I wanted to trade for last season, Tim Heed, made the Top 7 at San Jose. Nice RHD. I hope he brings the offense for them. He's 26 and needed this to happen.

Vegas messed up their expansion in my opinion. Teams would have paid more for them not to directly or indirectly mess with their rosters than they received.

I think they had a good draft, they added some picks and will likely add some more, but seems like this year is going to be overly messy for them, more so than it needed to be.

How did they mess up their expansion? They added picks by not taking certain players who wouldn't make them a contender anyway. Yes, Manson is great but he isn't the difference between winning and not winning the Cup.

Vegas is taking their time to build a team. Through the draft, waiver pick ups and FA signings.

Take the player then trade him for more than whatever the deal was to not take the player. Or allow the team to try to trade said player for a return that makes sense for both teams, under the cap, when most teams have trouble trading big contracts or what could be a big contract, or would have to expose something else they did not want to in order to make the trade, so when that does not materialize the team pays more for Vegas not to take the player.

I agree they received some picks, and also agree draft and development is the way to go, but going into a season with 10D, 11F who other than a select few do not hold any real value, trade or towards being good, where every other GM knows you are stuck having to make a move(s) just to ice the right amount of players by position, likely means they did something wrong.

So... They will suck for a few years and have a couple of high picks. Worked out well for Chicago and Pittsburgh. It's no guarantee, but neither is taking the players who are a bit better and then trading them for other pieces. I think this is also the result of GMs being too close

I agree by basically tanking that leads to the likeliest possibility that they end up good but to rephrase, rather than messed up, I think they did like a 7 out of 10, where even if they did a 10, they still have serious issues, just more futures than they ended up with and a roster that has the right amount of players for each position.

Talked to someone within the Dallas organization recently. He was very excited and optimistic about their team bouncing back into playoff contention and hopefully more this year. They seem very happy with the new squad and their (non)injury status. They like their new goalie. A lot. He also said Rangers could go either way. He really liked both Rangers first rounders this year. Said they are projected as a future 1-2 tandem in the middle. He thinks Chytil will grow to at least 6' 3". Andersson is seen as a very mature kid but he was bounced around and has played too much this summer so his legs were likely a bit shot. Great poise in his father Niklas. Likes Zuccarello too (Bring on the proposals ;)). He mentioned that Rick Nash is seen as being "very overpaid" within the league circuit, but that he will " probably score a bunch this winter as it is a contract year". Called him a coaster. There is no interest in Dallas for Nash, but San Jose would be the team to watch later if he were to be moved. He mentioned the "Demise in Detroit" and that They will likely tank the next Two-Three years Cleaning house to get a New fresh look a la Toronto. They will be very active on the trade front he thought. Says he is sure McDavid will lead the Oilers far, but they need another defenseman or two (Holden for Khaira and a 6th?). That was about it...

Rick Nash a "coaster"? People haven't watched him play in awhile I guess. Go figure.

Not sure Detroit can really tank 2-3 years and rebuild considering the contracts they have and the NTC's they have

Las Vegas has put together an interesting 24 man lineup one day before the season starts:

Forwards (11)

Pierre-Edouard Bellemare
William Carrier
Cody Eakin
Erik Haula
William Karlsson
Brendan Leipsic
Oscar Lindberg
Jonathan Marchessault
Tomas Nosek
David Perron
Reilly Smith

Defensemen (9+1)

Deryk Engelland
Jason Garrison
Brad Hunt
Brayden McNabb
Jon Merrill
Colin Miller
Griffin Reinhart
Luca Sbisa
Nate Schmidt
Clayton Stoner (Injured Reserve)

Goalies (3)
Marc-Andre Fleury
Calvin Pickard
Malcolm Subban

AHL
Vadiim Shipachyov
Alex Tuch
Teemu Pulkkinen
Shea Theodore

LTIR
James Neal

Got to expect a couple trades coming here likely sooner than later. If not could get crazy ;)

That roster looks terrible

man Laine looks so good the way he controls the puck in the offensive zone nevermind his ridiculous shot

Yes, it`s fun - I`m watching the Leaf game! A great start and good hockey in that game.

Just happy that hockey is back. Rangers tomorrow, and then have Tampa's opener Friday. Then my first game is this Sunday at MSG!

That Andrew Copp slip and fall up high lead to that 3 on 1 down low. What a terrible gaffe after 3 failed power plays to do that in the first shift of the Leafs's first.

Good lord. It was all Jets for 15 minutes and then the Leafs' talent took over.

Pens pre-game makes me wanna puke. Except Kessel. He can do no wrong.

Yeah, Jets had a strong push in the first 10 minutes and deserved a lead in that game, but after Leafs PP goal their structure fell apart almost.

I don't think Vegas has the fortune of building through the draft and slowly growing into a contender while ignoring the business end. There's a ton to do in that town, and if they don't want their building to be an away venue every night while fans fly in for the casino and a game, they better get good quick.

The raiders are going to be the main team in a few short years. If vgk doesn't carve out a niche soon, they'll hemorrhage money in the long run. It goes beyond passing on Manson. They should have stolen RFAs with smart contracts. I think they could have landed better talent like Josh Anderson, AA on Detroit. They missed out.

The defense on that Nylander goal was just pure trash. No one knew who to cover.

Buff followed Matthews and out of position and then no one covered for him at all.

Also lol every year is the Jet's year and they have so much talent and blah blah and they still have all the same problems that plagued them before
