Around The NHL #13

I think that has to fix it. I mean….right?

Absolutely. The Oilers suck because McJesus misses his old coach. I'm sure this came up in media interviews:
"Connor, why isn't the team scoring?"
"Well, you see Skip, the coaches just aren't saying the right things. I know I'm the best player on the planet, but without the coach telling me where to go and what to do, it just ain't going to happen."
"But you had the same HC last season when the team led the league in scoring."
"Next question"

There is no reason a team that is supposedly a Cup contender should have some really good prospects. All that stuff should have been sold off to go all in for a Cup, especially before the big two ask out.

I think the Oilers have to take a deep breath and regroup. They are very capable of going on a run with their talent. Holland has been in this situation before so I don't think he makes any quick moves unless he thinks it will improve his team. A coaching change is more likely than trading a few players.
I think you're right Jakey. I'm not sure the Oilers make a costly move if it only moves the needle from empty to half a tank. Holland is apparently retiring after the season though so who knows what they'll do.

I don’t care if the Oilers get Celibrini. He will change nothing for them. The only way they will change is with a change in philosophy.

There is a lot of the regular season remaining. Let's see what kind of character they have. We all know McDavid is the best player in hockey, let's see what kind of leader he is.

Its backwards in Edmonton, it has been for 10+ years. They always draft the shiny scorers the fans want RNH/Hall/Yak/McDrai, etc, they never give up scoring assets for solid D men, or use there zillion top 5 picks for D. Even Tip couldn't get the team to be good on D. I totally agree, its a philosophy problem. They could get a ton of assets and fix the D problems by trading one of McDrai. That could fix it overnight. Do you want to win or have the top stats in the NHL from 2 players? Until that answer changes, more of the same.

Maybe McDrai have gotten all the blood out of a stone that they could the last few years. Mentally they might be a little spent now carrying way more of the load.

That's the thing. I think proof is he is a terrible leader. Annointed at 19 because he is the best player in the world. Stupid move by a stupid, ridiculously lucky organization.

Any failure now is squarely on McDavid.

The Oilers signed Connor Brown for 775k. Because of his injury history, he was eligible for a performance bonus, which the Oilers signed him to for $3,225,000. He gets the bonus upon playing 10 games this year.

Through nine games he has 0 points. He needs just 1 more game to get that additional money.

Another stroke of genius by the Oilers.

My family back in Buffalo are all flipping out texting me saying Pat Kane is "coming home" despite there being no real concrete evidence to support the claim. Personally, I fail to see why that would be something to be happy about. He's not the same player he used to be, and I'm not convinced he's what the locker room needs.

What proof is there that McDavid is a terrible leader? McDavid didn't construct this roster, that's on Holland, but a good leader will somehow lead the troops to a better showing. McDavid may have been given the C a couple of years early, but maybe he showed great leadership abilities in junior.

That was a dumb deal, no doubt.
