Ingram.

He would waive for us. He’s in Bakersfield. Edmonton is a trainwreck. Winter is coming. He’d LOVE to be in Phoenix splitting the net with nice guy Conor Ingram and the beloved Andre Tourigny giving him pep talks.
Don't see how that improves the chances of us getting into the playoffs, but it does improve Edmonton's chances. If we trade Vejjie, I want a blueliner coming back. I also would like the Oilers chances of keeping their 2 star forwards to diminish just like their chance of getting into the playoffs.

I'm thinking this team is +/- 3 seasons away from being anything more than a playoff pretender. By then Cooley will be a vet, both But & Simashev should have some good NHL experience under their belts, and we'll know exactly what we have in our other picks by then too.

The odds of Veji still being here by then are slim anyways, so I'm fine with taking advantage of EDM's desperation in a trade involving Veji. We don't belong in the playoffs this season and would most likely just get embarrassed in the first round anyways, if we did somehow pull it off. So I put more value in the picks for what we need long term.

There is literally no benefit for the team to make the playoffs this season, IMO. (That might be a bit extreme lol, I just don't feel like it's that important at this phase of the rebuild and with the team being sort of in limbo off the ice too.)

Edit: What's y'alls thoughts on when this team should start to peak as a legit contender?

I don’t care what good or bad fortune befalls the oilers. I only care about Arizona.

There is definitely value in making playoffs
Yeah, I can't disagree. I think I'm trying to oversell it lol.

I think to simplify it, I value the picks more than whatever a likely short playoff appearance gives the team in return.

It's such a strange thing how handicapped the team is right now, specifically with any form of increased "profits" a playoff run could generate any other team, we couldn't even have anyways, to be so limited because of the situation it's in is... odd.

If we trade veggie, we aren't getting a first for him in my opinion, the pick or picks would be later in the second. 30% shot one pick turns into an NHl player 3 or 4 years from now. Versus, we keep him and the team is better. Making the playoffs and that experience would be great for a young team. When we do make the playoffs, we likely get bounced in the first round the first few years, year 3 of making the playoffs is when we can win a round or two. It won't be a light switch, now we are in and WCF or Stanley cup contenders the first year or two. Anyway, just getting in is step one, the sooner the better, you can't under value that experience and a step we have to take.

Jack Campbell has given up four goals on 17 shots (.765 SV%) through two periods for the Bakersfield Condors, who are down 4-1 to the Abbotsford Canucks at the second intermission.
He is toast. Probably out of the game next year. Career has cratered.

He could bounce back with a mental reset. I'm not that keen on having the Coyotes give him that opportunity. Just pointing out that it could be done. Send him to an Amazonian shaman for an Ayahuasca journey. Bring him back and see what you have.

More time in the Canadian spotlight is certainly not going to help him.

Is it the player or the situation?

Of course none of us want Campbell. :)

But if we get a 1st for taking him and another 1st for Vejmelka, and we’ve got Ingram signed to multiple years, then suddenly it’s very interesting to me.

That first could be the 10th pick oir as late as 25th if the Oilers pull out of the tailspin. I just don't see them giving up a high to mid first for Veggie, but if they do, sure lets do it!

Top 10 protected. Slides to 2025 if it’s top 10.

To EDM:
Karel Vejmelka
‘24 ARI 3rd

To ARI:
Jack Campbell
‘24 1st (c. T10p)
‘26 1st

Sign me up. I'm of the opinion we aren't going to be making the playoffs this season anyways, so trading Veji won't rob these guys of any playoff experience if I'm right. That would be an amazing haul, maybe too good to be true. Campbell turning things around here would just be a bonus.

I'm all aboard this and we better hurry before they begin talking to Philly about Hart.

Imagine what we could do with extra blue chips with all the ammo we already have!

The oilers outshot SJS 41-18 last night. Campbell got smoked in the AHL. How can Edmonton do anything but fail unless they add a legit goalie and syntactic Campbells contract? How can they do both for any less than two 1sts?

They can wait until after the year and buyout Campbell, which I think is their plan.

That’s a great plan if they hope to flush this season down the toilet and then completely squander the rising cap for the foreseeable future. Sitting on their hands and taking half measure is how they ended up the worst team in NHL despite McDavid and Draisaitl hitting their primes. Holland is a complete fraud. And your suggestion fits his modus operandi to a tee.

I think the value is good for both parties, all things considered, and EDM has got to do something now. It just seems too good to be true that Holland let EDM get to such a desperate place for us to take advantage of. That's why I think it's too good to be true/pass up. This opportunity shouldn't even exist.

Holland won't exist as GM for much longer either.

Supposedly Holland is retiring at the end of the year. Maybe he wants to go out in a blaze of glory.

It's way to early in the year to panic when you have two superstars on your roster. Concern? For sure, but why lose two first round picks on a player who may not turn it around for the Oilers. McDavid has been hurt as well. Cooler heads have to prevail, the players have to regroup and go from there, but throwing away two first round picks 12 games into the season would be stupidity.

Not to mention it's not Patrick Roy being offered to them. Veggie is an average NHL goalie, they could Halak for free if they wanted to try something different as easiest example. Goaltending has not been great but it's not Edmonton's number 1 issue. And last night goaltending was pretty much irrelevant to that loss

75% of teams in the playoffs at thanksgiving make the playoffs.

I actually don’t mind Campbell. I think we could revive him.
Same.
