Around The NHL #13

Getting his name back in the rumour mill is the first step (hope) of some rehabilitation for him, to show that he is still alive.
I doubt his first job back will be a GM position. He has alienated a lot of people and the league, and the path back to the big time might take some time.

What has McDavid really done? Is Edmonton cursed or just cursed by McDrai’s huge cap hit?’ Lousy ownership/ management.

By asking that first question just shows you don't watch much hockey. McDavid hasn't won a cup yet, but he had done everything else.

LOL.

So two generals are having a cup of coffee in an outdoor cafe in post war Paris. One says to the other “By the way, who won the air war?”

What I mean is, it’s the cup, stupid.(thank you Bill Clinton) Nothing else matters. No one cares who was the best player unable to propel his team to the Cup.

Feel bad for McDavid. Not his fault he was drafted by a disaster of an organization. Personally hoping they’re cursed and never see a Cup, for having squandered so much lottery luck.

They had lottery luck for sure, but since Holland has been there they are better, but there is so much parity in the league. The Oilers and Vegas were two points apart in the standings over a 82 game schedule. Like we have said many times, it's hard to win the SC.

I never understood the amount of criticism leveled at Stepan by Forum40.

Why Chayka traded for Stepan and then forced Doan into retirement bewildered me....only reason to acquire Stepan would be if you were planning on another season for Doan.

If a franchise we are likely trying to model ourselves after (sure injuries play a part) chooses to play him in all but 1 of their playoff games and increasing his ice time, perhaps there are some facets of his game and intangibles overlooked by forum40?

Apparently being the best player in the NHL has little to do with team success.

Other than Tortorella, every other hockey analyst just bows at his feet and talks about every statistic except winning.

I don't hate Stepan because he sucked. I hate him because of his 0 effort listless gliding around the ice every game. Then the "I'll hang my hat on making the playoffs" quote when we snuck in during that COVID year pissed me off even more. I'd wager he was one of the leaders of the "it's ok if we suck and keep losing" group.

You do know it's a team sport? One player will not win you a SC, no matter how good they are. To win the SC everything has to fall into place.

Lazy, loafing, loser. He was captain of the cruise ship, here. And Demers was the Activities Director. Between those two, all of the spirit and effort was completely sucked from the team. Not to mention Tocchet and Kessel. Worst kind of country club.

There’s a Chiclets interview you can listen to where Goligoski credits Stepan for helping him realize he shouldn’t take things too seriously. And another interview (maybe the same I don’t remember) where Stepan talking about drinking a six pack of Bud lite every night. Even nights before a game. Then there was that time when Demers was complaining about having to endure training camp and talking like pre season games were beneath him. And Stepan is laughing along.

That was the darkest era of coyotes history. We’ve usually been bad. But that group was completely unlikable.
