This may be a hot take but Kings are easily better than Vegas after watching their last few games. And PLD hasn't even fully showed up yet. They are gonna be a handful when he shows up and if the goaltending holds up. Byfield looks amazing and looks like he is finally growing into the player he was drafted to be,
Kings and Knights scare me. Big, fast, skilled, right through the lineup

Those are two teams that have total buy-in to their system... jets are closer to them than we think

If pionk is engaged physically then we can compete because he can play a hard game like jomo - I'd really like to see a chisholm-samberg 3rd pair though...

If vilardi ends up on our second line suddenly we have size and speed on all 4 lines...

I hope so.....I have concerns about our size and durability , but we'll see.

I feel for those fans actually. Having two of the best players in the entire league and going nowhere.

Yeah. I know some folks here have a deep-seated, historically-rooted hatred of everything Oilers, but the limited time I spent there when we were in Canada was always pretty positive. People there seemed to be welcoming and friendly and I only ever heard good stuff about Winnipeg as a fellow small-market toon that was on the rise again.

Watching one of the future greats struggle through game after game in an attempt to get his crap team going is hard to watch -- as a lifelong Arsenal fan, I've seen my share of death spirals.

Yeah their superfans can be annoying. But this is hard to watch.

I’m not a fan of Bouchard, Tyson Barrie 2.0 only WAY softer if that’s even possible. Mind numbing they passed over Noah Dobson which is exactly what they needed.

Agreed. Dobson is significantly better and much more balanced of a defender. Just another botched high pick by them.

If that is the end result of my blind act of Gambler's Faith to 'the odds' that costs me my best Survivor run ever, then I can rest happy.

Indeed, me picking the Oilers tonight was a textbook emotional hedge -- either I live another day, or I get to laugh my ass off at the Oilers. I win either way :)

yeah, getting to laugh my ass off at the Oilers was worth it. There's always gonna be more Survivor rounds to play, but the Oilers being tied for last overall, that's as precious as a statutorily legal scotch :)

I love to see the Oilers in a death spiral.

I am sure they will be fine driving to the patch in their lifted trucks with the f*** TRUDEAU stickers plastered on it
That sounds more like Calgary fans. I think Edmonton is a pretty liberal/progressive city so unlikely to have so many of the gas-guzzling trucks with big carbon footprint or the stickers expressing their lack of love for our Prime Minister.

All that said, I'm not sad to see the Oilers imploding, mostly because of all the insane tire pumping by the media ("Cup Favourites") and concomitant disrespect for the Jets. Granted this isn't the Oilers' fans' fault but still not sad.

Also they have Evander Kane. I will enjoy maximum schadenfreude over any team with him on their roster suffering. And no, that has nothing to do with the colour of his skin, but with the content of his character which we've seen lots of evidence of.

Your mentioning Evander Kane, racism, and Calgary all ties nicely into a discussion I had with a friend who speculated Calgary might be a trade target -- if he thought Winnipeg was irredeemably racist, I can only imagine what one year in Calgary would do to his perspective.

True story: the last time I was back in Calgary with my group of hockey-loving friends, we went to the Blackfoot Truckstop Diner for some local legendary greasy spoon goodness. Three whiter-than-whitebread middle aged men, and a young Pakistani man named Sanjay. And within minutes of our banter, Sanjay made quiet hand gestures to his eyes ("look") and pointed to his side, and with a glance over, I saw several tables full of Caucasians staring daggers at us.

To this day, I don't know if they hated Sanjay for daring to 'despoil' their favorite restaurant, or hated us for daring to have a brown friend; nor do I rightly care.

Say what you will about Winnipeg's social problems -- and yes, we have a non-zero and alarming level of bigotry of our own to reckon with. But if Kane wants to talk about Winnipeg like it was the second coming of the Confederate States of America, then boy-oh-boy does Alberta life hold a rude awakening for him.
