A bit of both. I always wanted to see what PMo could do with a good team. We saw that in 2018 and now in 2024. He's an average coach, but a good talker. He could have won in 2018, but Vegas and MAF decided to be f***ing irritating. The Jets were the better team in that series. Maurice fired himself because he saw that he couldn't fix stupid anymore. The Jets' adherence to loyalty will always be their downfall. They need to have a more mercenary approach to it. They can't worry about paying KC in 3 years. He won't be anywhere near worth what they will pay him.
Certainly an element of truth to this. In hindsight, the worst decision that chevy ever made was to trade with Vegas for 1 more year of a declining Enstrom. Could have drafted Suzuki and had a damn good 1-2 centre punch right now.

It's funny, I bet that if the Panthers win there will be some PoMo haters that will say "he only won because the roster he had was good"

There aren't many BAD rosters that win the cup, and usually they're carried by a red hot goalie

The funniest thing about it is that while Nurse has been.... Nurse, Bouchard has had a greater negative impact for the Oilers in this series due to plays that directly led to back breaking goals, lack of discipline and composure, and the evaporation of his ability to generate offense both 5v5 and on the pp.

But. Bouchard is the young darling, so...

Its funny how all team boards are essentially the same.

Mic drop quote. The team boards in Canada all cope with wins and losses the same, overeating wildly to both.

Also Edmonton is running around like the Jets scapegoating when 90% of the finals can be explained by Bobrovsky's sizzling .941 save % after 3 games.

Bob was not great in the first series vs Tampa but has gotten progressively better as the series have gone along.

Also of note Edmonton is blaming Skinner when he was the positive difference in the series vs Dallas with over a .920 save %. I thought last night Skinner was the cause for goal #2 but had zero shot on the other 3 goals that all happened because of breakdowns with two snipes and a tap in.

It is what it is and I think you said it pretty well in another post where there is also allot of chance and randomness to this with momentum swings. Dallas caught Edmonton when their goalie got hot..........Now Edmonton is catching Florida when their goalie is all world.

Sucks to be an Oiler fan this morning.

I have been applying lowered expectations and lower level engagement. I was already self medicating with beer for recreational purposes.

Go Jets Go. Or don’t go, that’s ok too…….but that makes for a tougher fan chant at Canada life Centre.

I hear ya. I all seriousness though, I definitely have changed the way I handle sports disappointments over the years. This year was incredibly disappointing for the Jets in the playoffs; however, unsurprising. I figured it was a good opportunity to take a break and focus on having a fun/productive summer.

Fishing, gardening, cycling/getting active, catch up on my reading list, sports for all the kids, etc. There are way too many great things to feel too down about pro sports. I'll still feel the highest-highs when my teams win though hahaha

I'm not sure they can enjoy the luxury of being Vegas-like with a mercenary approach but they certainly do need to evolve away from the the absolute loyalty.

I am guessing that throughout the league players are aware that TNSE is a top-notch organization to play for that takes really good care of their players and families. I don't recall too many players criticizing the organization for that.

It's location and always will be. So you do have to counter that but I'm of the belief they already are doing all they can to counter it by being the excellent organization.

What they do not need to do is make foolish signings for long term because the player is "family" or however it may be viewed. If it makes sense and the performance will warrant it then sign that retirement deal. Playoffs notwithstanding I think the Hellebuyck signing was a good one (sorry Sip). Scheifele felt more like they were trapped into it due to a lack of center depth. But I think the Scheifele deal will be good for most of the contract and what else could they have done?

I also think they need to go back to being extremely cautious with their draft capital. I'll confess to liking the deal to get a 2C in Monahan in return for a 1st (hindsight says otherwise) but my usual opinion on that is to suggest to never trade a 1st, simply because of the "Winnipeg Tax" and it being so hard to get UFAs to sign here. Maybe the end benefit of this first is Monahan signs a reasonable deal to play 2C here and we plug that hole for a while and that's good. But giving up those firsts should be the hardest decision Chevy makes.

I'm guessing that's exactly what you meant by mercenary approach.

Great post and good choices.

I take losses hard but i have improved allot getting on with it and redirecting my focus. I have been working on my health and all inputs since March 30th which has been a great distraction.

Since I've had kids, sports disappointment is almost non-existent for me. Win, lose, whatever. More important things to worry about. I still love watching my teams I just don't really get emotionally attached

I didn’t ever understand the history transferring to Arizona anyway…..makes zero sense
Yeah, super weird. Nobody in Winnipeg really cares about Thrashers history. I feel no connection to Kovalchuk, Heatley, etc aside from the fact that I lived down there when they had the team

I will say that Ilya Kovalchuk was a hell of a player in his prime though
