In a perfect world if we miss the playoffs we miss and finish bottom 10. Montreal finishes 3rd worst. We win the draft lotto and bump Montreal to 4th overall
I also want to see Dubois hit 80 points this season while Dach stagnates just to pour a crap load of salt in their open wound.:popcorn:

It will be a glorious read of their board’s meltdown.

So FLA 1st (undersized puck moving D) and Dach for PLD would have been the deal

Instead we basically got Dach (Vilardi is the same type of player), two more roster forwards and a high 2nd round pick (that will probably be the same 'falling' D gamble as Mikheyev)

Lets spread the rumour that Scheif will only sign in Montreal now...

Let's give that 2nd for the Flyers taking Schmidt?
PLD and Schmidt for Vilardi, Iafallo and Kup is pretty good.

I'd be down for something like that - but Philly doesn't have a lot of cap space

I think Schmidt could be the type of guy to accept a trade to Arizona... that's probably most realistic - but I think Chevy runs it back

Schmidt would actually be a nice fit for the Canadiens - and we'd prob get a pick back

I doubt we'd get much back and would have to give them a very nice sweetener.

Schmidt prob tough to move but imo played well with both ville and samberg just like demelo did. I'd probably keep Schmidt and move pionk if I could instead

Blockbuster

Scheifele pionk for Keller.

TNSE would never do that to Scheif... but if they did I'd want Geekie and Doan for that combo

Coyotes have tons of cap space - if there's a trade for Schmidt, I think its there - maybe we can get McBain haha

Mark has a 10 team no trade list. I'd guess Arizona is on it.

With Mark and Connor I assume they have both been thinking big contract on a contending team (I assume), but I am not sure they will get both wishes. Maybe, or maybe not, but compromise might be needed on one of the two inputs. I guess we’ll see.

Kind of my thinking as well. It seems they may have to leave money on the table to go to a contender. Or they will have to move onto another bubble team for more cash imo.

Usually the compromise ends up being contender and cash wins out, haha

Real contenders usually have pot committed to their quota of big contracts for their core. It’s rare they go out and add a huge long term deal for a 30 something. Pietrangelo is one of the rare exceptions I can think of but he was a clear cut right shot #1 franchise D man and it made sense for Vegas’s contending window.

NO WAY I'm not playing in remote northern Canada... how do you expect me to survive living seven hours away from my mom and dad!!! TRADE MEEEEEE!!!!!!

They didn't have to trade him. He told them he wasn't extending there.

Doroin basically turned the 2022 7th overall pick and 39th overall pick into a late 25-32 1st round pick in 2024 for just season of DeBrincat with no playoffs. Yikes! Tough for Senators fans.

25 year old Scoring winger fetches a (most likely) mid to late 1st and a 4th. He also signs a sub $8 million on a 4 year term.

That is a reasonable deal for DeBrinkcat’s production.

That's the literal equivalent of trade me.

So he exercised his rights under the CBA? It's not the equivalent of trade me, he told them he won't extend beyond 2024, not that he wouldn't play there at all, unlike a certain three name former Jet.

At the same time, I respect the attempt, you have Brady, you have Stutzle, you have Chabot, you want to get some energy back into the market.

Technically, I think the hyphen makes Pierre-Luc a single name.

I don't. Maybe it makes sense to go for it like that if you are the Rangers where you can easily replenish value even if you do end up losing the player. But for a small market GM to acquire essentially a pending UFA at that price, and not even at the trade deadline where you have some sort of certaintly about making the playoffs is just awful. Making things even worse Chicago drafted Korchiski with that pick who is one the best d-man in the WHL.

Ottawa's owners were selling the team. Creating excitement and increasing attendance prior to the sale could translate into tens of millions of dollars. The fact that the trade was likely to make the team worse over the long term wasn't their concern.
