Their roster is just too good to bottom out atm. If they want to tank, they're gonna have to make some more big trades to send guys out, which doesn't seem to be their plan. They still have a top pairing that could hang with anyone in Weegar and Andersson, a competent veteran forward group, even if a bit underwhelming, and Wolf standing on his head definitely doesn't help either.

I think they have a slightly better roster overall than Vancouver that's basically the only team they're competing with for that last wild card spot.

Yeah but Kuzmenko has no value. He should but like Vrana, no value. I was high on Pelletier but he might not bring more than 3rd line offense in the NHL

Farabee and Frost are still young and could bring more than they did in Philly. Good for the Flames IMO. However they also spent a 2nd

Calgary has the 2nd lowest projected cap hit in the league after this deal.

Yes, Calgary absorbed cap dollars, but remains with the 2nd lowest projected hit. Philly gained space, but the context of the conversation was that Calgary didn't have to give up much for 2 roster players with upside. You expressed "cap space" - hardly an issue for Calgary. Kuzmenko brings nothing to Philly, and Pelletier is undersized with more years of development required. Conroy made out like a bandit.

I’ll have to disagree. Frost and more importantly Farabee were persona non gratis in Philly. They will be a player this summer in FA.

Fair enough. But does Torterella like anyone? Farabee is coming off a 50pts, 82gm season and is signed to a reasonable $5M. This was supposed to be a growth year for him but again Torts shows that he shouldn't be coaching in this league anymore - he incapable of developing players.

The NHL is not a development league players have to earn their roster spot, the AHL is a development league. Having said that, Torts has had many good young players develop on teams he has coached. Some players love him & some hate him, he is an intense coach especially if they don't play his way. Remember when he said he didn't think Duclair knew how to play hockey?

I think Tortorella gets hated on because of his antics and especially how fiery he was at the beginning of his career in Tampa and New York but I think every time I listen to podcasts or interviews with his ex-players or current players they always say he’s the type of coach that always has your back.

Of course if you decide not to give any efforts or not play winning hockey then you get called out, as it should be.

The guy has been employed for 25 years in this league when many many coaches come and go. He’s a much better coach than people realize.

In 25 years he had developped a ton of young players.
