That's a dumb ass trade for Florida. A 100-point winger, one of the better defensemen in the league, and a 1st for a different 100-point winger.
nothing old fashioned about two 100+ pt players being exchanged. I'm sure I'll remember one but the last time that happened that I can recall is Gretzky for Jimmy Carson et al.Pretty good deal for both teams. Old fashioned hockey trade. Plus it weakens Florida when our window is open, so all in all pretty cool.
questionable when a old rich guy wants to partake in a "film project" with a teenager. The texts in the article make him sound like he's a middle man for other old rich creeps.
Oilers owner may be in trouble
Just meant players for players and not draft pick driven more than anything.nothing old fashioned about two 100+ pt players being exchanged. I'm sure I'll remember one but the last time that happened that I can recall is Gretzky for Jimmy Carson et al.
So he could have put Calgary on that list.
nah, M-NTC his final year.
Sure. Small list though, with only 8 teams on it.So he could have put Calgary on that list.
Thomas Drance on the Athletic is saying that the Kadri to the Isles is "in the drawer" meaning everything is signed and ready waiting in the drawer, but the Isles havent filed or announced it yet so they dont lose leverage with other trades they need to make in order to fit Kadri under the cap.
If true, Lou isnt going to like that this leaked from Drance.
does he come with a 1st for absorbing all his cap? I like Byron as a player in theory but I feel like he's a shell of his former self and at his age, his very small size is a serious liability. Used to be a great PKer IIRCNHL player Paul Byron helped rescue pilot who crashed seaplane into Quebec lake

it takes courage to win a cup....lets get this guy
I think the Leafs surpassed our 54 year drought
If he's retiring, he's going out on top. Boston is in a lot of trouble.
I thought he'd go to a Colorado to win another one.
Vegas attendance should never be a problem given its location and sheer amount of locals/tourists that are into hockey and live entertainment. Sunrise FL on the other hand while near FLL and Miami feels like the middle of nowhere and it shows when the team isn't competitive.Florida going the Vegas method of scorched earth on bad contracts, dumping prospects and 1st rounders all to chase an early exit. At least Vegas got a finals run and have a much healthier attendance for now. If Florida can't stay in the playoff picture then they look like Arizona attendance wise.
Bless the Leafs. Crazy thing is they haven’t even had a finals appearance in that time. They already surpassed it by not winning it in 2021, as it would take 55 years from 1967 to 2022 to win a Cup, whereas it took us 54 years from from 1940 to 1994.
Yup, that record is all theirs now. Plus, 3 more years and both BUF and VAN pass us too. 8 more for PHI.They already surpassed it by not winning it in 2021, as it would take 55 years from 1967 to 2022 to win a Cup, whereas it took us 54 years from from 1940 to 1994.
Weird part is that, with our current drought of 27 seasons, there are more teams behind us than ahead on the longest current list. Some of those behind are newer teams, but still. Lets just win a friggen cup already.Yup, that record is all theirs now. Plus, 3 more years and both BUF and VAN pass us too. 8 more for PHI.
Quinny needs to learn from his mistakes and be more handsoff in general, especially during practice. Players/vets hate micro managing coaches at the NHL level (unless a super young team full of rookies). He needs to let vets play a bigger role in leadership and in the room, just the way it is. He could also stand to have a more 'level' demeanor during practice, games, and with the media. I'm curious to see how he does.
@will1066 will now have to give up on his dream of Quinn swooping back in leading us to a 1st round exit via sweep, but maybe more zoom screenshots fodder?
"Bedard and Michkov are the clear top two, and both would be No. 1 overall material in almost any draft year," Woodlief said.
He says this is the most talented duo the NHL has seen since Connor McDavid and Jack Eichel were together in the 2015 draft.
"There’s not much separating Bedard and Michkov; both are quite small, but phenomenally skilled." Woodlief said. "(They are) so skilled that each could become 50-goal scorers, not 35 or 40 goal scorers, in the NHL. "
The unknown about Michkov is how NHL teams will view his Russian heritage. It doesn't help that Michkov's KHL contract runs until 2025.
"Michkov is the best pure goal scorer to come out since Auston Matthews in ’16," Woodlief said. " But Bedard is only the slightest shade behind him in that category, and a better puckhandler with a bit more imaginative playmaking."
If you don't pick in the top two, there will be plenty of reasons to like the 2023 draft. Woodlief has Slovak center Dalibor Dvorsky currently at No. 3. If he had been eligible in 2022, Woodlief said he would have ranked him No. 1. At age 16, he was Slovakia's No. 2 center the World Junior Championships.
Woodlief likes plenty of players from this draft class: "The 2023 draft is quite deep compared to most recent drafts."
Apparently, this is a very good season to be a bad hockey team.
