Dubas paying for Karlsson and then probably losing Guentzel because of it is a bit questionable. They look like shit.
Karlsson has always been fun to watch but I don't feel like he is the type of player you win with in this era. He is basically the modern day Paul Coffey and while that worked in the 80s, it doesn't in this era. You can still lean offense but you need to be more in the Makar, Hughes, Fox mold.

Ouch. Does anything ever go right for this franchise?

It'll be interesting to see who and when a new GM is installed - and how they handle the trade deadline. It could go anywhere from a wait and see approach, with being more active this summer, to a lot of cleaning house very quickly.

It's been his go to move to land the biggest player on the market regardless of what the team needs. GMing via ego. Next step is hire Keefe of Toronto fires him anytime soon.

Agreed. It's interesting how when you put Karlsson on a decent team he falls out of the Norris conversation.

It doesn't sound like he's playing badly. But if he's not the shining star on a mediocre or bad team then his one-dimensional qualities factor in.

It has to be frustrating being badgered for a very specific soundbite all the time. I forget exactly what the word was, but Helene was very obviously trying to force a soundbite using the word when interviewing the players. I only caught it because when the DRW youtube channel uploads the media scrums it's always players first then Lalonde. But they are filmed in the opposite order. Because she asked a player, forget who, specifically "Coach said this (using this word) about the upcoming game, what do you make of that." But when it got to Lalonde's media scrum, the word was used in her sentence and she was similarly trying to lead a soundbite. Like she'd already written the article with a particular word/phrase in mind and was trying to secure the corresponding quotation.

And don't even get me started on Art's attempts to form a narrative into a question, that usually doesn't even come out as a proper sentence, let alone question...

I like it. Torts does the same thing and people find it ammusing, some don't. Players give the generic A,B,C answers anyways so either use the quotes or use your journalism and write something about the game.

I like it when they don't give the stock answers but am not a fan of Kucherov's sullen teenager act here or at the all-star game.

He's making $10 million this year and part of his job is to answer questions for reporters who generate content about the league for us idiots on sites like this to debate endlessly.

If I were the owner of the Lightning I'd tell him to knock it off and actually do his job. He doesn't have to say the same boring shit but stop acting like it's a huge burden you can't be bothered with.

'yeah if you're sick of the boring media stuff okay fine then do like....literally anything else

give blunter answers than normal that are actually entertaining? great

work every question into a bizarre analogy about your woodworking hobby? awesome

just....anything at all other than sullen non-answers like that

Devils up 2-0 on Flyers. Boy if you wanted to see a power play that sucks ass just watch the Flyers and Devils pp in this game. I'll keep our supposedly suck pp.

I wish the media would ask a little bit more critical questions. Like, I don't need to know Lalonde's plans on watching the Buffalo Bills.

People always say this, but the problem for media people asking tough questions is, that they will lose their insider type stuff as the team won't want to talk to them. I imagine that is a big reason why they don't ask the tough questions, like why does Petry play all the time when he makes lots of bonehead plays with the puck?

I agree for the most part, with one minor exception, when the questions are really really extra lame or stupid.

Is it tacky celebrating an empty net goal?

Lots of times yes, but if it was 4-3 in a crucial game and late in the playoffs or trying to make the playoffs, then I am ok with them celebrating a lot.

Meh, he doesn't owe it to the reports to help fuel their salary with edgy soundbites or drivel.

He got in front of the reports like he was told to do.

If I was the owner of the Lightning I wouldn't be giving a shit because he is putting up ungodly numbers, I'm rich, and I have a hot wife.
