It may be my being overly cynical but in terms of their careers being over, never underestimate Bettman. Some guys could potentially make a plea deal, miss the rest of the season or some bullshit and be back when people are distracted by the next big thing like the shitshow of a US presidential election.

The public will never go for any of them back in the league.

You're probably right. I just never count out Bettman's using our love of hockey against us. He's like a drug dealer with an addict. "Sure they're mad I cut their heroin with drain-o, but they'll come crawling back."

Hockey's the biggest sport here by a country mile, and that has ALWAYS resulted in a bunch of overly entitled kids who think they're really important when the play AAA, or up to junior hockey. Alot of entitlement and pompousness comes from that. Society has largely enabled the shitty behaviour that comes from this historically, as well as the "aww shucks, boys will be boys" attitude around it. We're only just starting to crack down on it now.

This certainly isn't the last major sexual misconduct scandal we'll hear about regarding Hockey Canada.

It’s wild to me that the police are going to such lengths to protect the identities of these guys.
I read that it’s maybe just until the charges become formal. We’ll see. I certainly won’t be surprised if these guys get extra protection.

Love how hf was pretty much unanimous in the offseason that Ottawa was legitimate and Detroit wasn't on the same tier.

This place.

Too soon?

Edmonton suddenly on pace for 106 points halfway into the season even with their poor start

crazy what a 15 game winning streak can do

Too much is hung up on guilty verdicts. This doesn't make the NHL look good. The NHL wants to make money. They don't want fans/parents of fans/advertisers thinking that these guys just run trains whenever to celebrate.

18-A.5 Criminal Investigation. A Player subject to Commissioner Discipline for Off-Ice
Conduct may seek a reasonable delay in such proceedings in order to retain and seek the advice
of counsel in the event his conduct may also be subject to a criminal investigation by any
governmental authority, or in the event of an ongoing civil proceeding where the Player has been
named as a defendant. The League may suspend the Player pending the League's formal review
and disposition of the matter where the failure to suspend the Player during this period would
create a substantial risk of material harm to the legitimate interests and/or reputation of the

League.

Owen Tippet getting 8 years.. I don't get this trend. So many teams signing guys on deals they hope turns out to be a steal. That's a huge commitment for a guy who can definitely still progress on could be a 40-50 point guy until he's 33. The cap going up helps inflate the deal but makes me curious what Raymond is going to get.

I thought 8 years was too much as well, he hasn't proven it long enough yet. But, what do I know.
With the NHL becoming a much younger arena I think we will see more and more of these. They are banking on guys peaking earlier and being able to avoid those UFA deals. Only the most elite of players are playing into their mid 30s these days. If you wait to sign them until they are proven and going towards UFA you may be stuck with 4 years of a bad contract. They are banking on the cap continuing to climb. Until you see like a decade long stagnant cap, you'll keep seeing deals like this.

Something feels very off about that Flyers management group. Signing Tippett to that deal doesn't seem like a wise move at all when you look at their cap structure.

Tippett's production is similar to Jake DeBrusk who got 4 million while being a more proven player.

The cost seems way too high for a guy with 1 20 goal season and another pacing 30.

I don't pretend to know a lot about Tippet but wow that's a big commitment to a 24 yr old winger with a career high of 49 points. Gambling has apparently entered the league in terms of contracts as well.

It would have been nice to have gotten Mo and Ray's deals done in the summer before some of these extensions. If Mo comes in under $9M/yr and Ray under $8M/yr it'll be a miracle.

I think about Josh Anderson 's deal when I see this. The odds of Tippett out performing the contract seem small. Odds of that contract turning into a long term anchor are there. But that is with every long term deal I suppose.

That was the exact comparable I thought of. I hope the deal works out because I know minimal of the player but it seems like a gamble for no reason. Debrincat got 4 years, and took a gamble on himself. To think you usually sacrifice a bit of average to get term, would Philly have gave him 7.5 on a 4 year deal? Different players but I'm just trying to understand.
